LANL expanding workforce

LANL is rapidly trying to expand its workforce and the problem trying to get qualified people with some tech background.

Facebook 'looks to quietly cull 12,000 underperforming workers' - 15% of its staff - in WEEKS: Mark Zuckerberg freezes hiring and shuts NYC offic

LANL could grab 3-4k of these people. The issue is will they even want to go to LANL? I say they should bombard Facebook with LANL adds right now.

Or just poach someone already with a Q and system experience from LLNL.

If they can't catch the Facebook folks there is always the chance that the folks at Twitter that have promised to quit if Musk buys the company could transfer their talents to LANL.

Think of it, former Facebook and Twitter employees chanting "Orange man bad" while building pits.

Great idea, they can develop the metaverse at LANL and build metabombs. They could even conduct atmospheric metatests on Crossroads. I just hope there are no metacriticality incidents!! Oh well, move fast and break things, right?

LANL is just going on and on about trying to hire as many people as possible right now at 200 per month. I am not sure if Facebook or Twitter people could take these jobs. I am also hearing many of the new hires leave after 6 months or year. I am not sure if they just get better job or what happens. Housing is becoming extremely difficult to find and the roads are starting become badly clogged. The drivers are much more aggressive.

Yeah… hire underperforming employees… then we can focus on CRT more at LLNL.

What if we figure out a way to automate pit production what do we do with all these people. This same question can be asked of US in general. What are we going to do with all these people after automation?

It may be 10 or 30 years from now, but as some point, 50-70% of the population will literally never have jobs. There will be literally no work for somebody with a sub-100 eyeque, and even the midwits will seriously struggle to find employment.

What do we do with these people? UBI sounds nice, but eventually some plutocrat is going to point out the inefficiency of subsidizing hundreds of billions for millions of people to do nothing but pop out babies and play video games.

Serious answers only. This is a very real problem and nobody is taking about it.

Well you still need people to spend money to create an economy so you could have them paid to play video games. The other thing is that once the online universe gets going you could just spend most of you time in pod plugged in. This way you eat less, fly less, travel less and use less resources. You do your job online, meet people online, play online, sort of like a the matrix but voluntary, you still pay money. Do this for next generation and you will not have a population problem for long. You save the environment, most people will be happy, in the pod and race and gender will have no meaning. In fact you will not be allowed in the pod until you can prove you are worthwhile, so you have a spend a few years doing some service to the world and after that you get to spend the rest of your life in the pod. People will want to do this if food is so expensive you will be more than happy going to the pod, where your caloric needs will drop by a factor of 5 so it will be much cheaper, you could live in a this giant storage facility so rent will be cheap. It is perfect.

About half the country supports politicians who want racial division, undermine legitimate authority, and even seem to hate our country itself. A house divided cannot stand. For our own survival, we must partition the United States, and rid ourselves of the so-called Americans who lust for death and destruction.

Which half are you referring to?

If you have to ask you are part of the problem.

Luckily, you are not part of the solution. You are part of the insane, delusional fringe that will disappear in mere moments as is your wont. No one cares what you think. Crawl back into the woodwork. Leave us normal people alone to live our lives in peace.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
