Why cannot she identify with how she wants? I looked her up, her undergraduate and graduate degree are all on being Native American.
From what I can tell she actually believed this the whole time, I think she is 45 years old. She probably has done a lot of good work for Native Americans. I seriously doubt this was a scam her whole life but at the same reading up on her interactions she must have known something did not add up as was not exactly forthcoming with some of the investigators. Her husband, "partner" is also a real piece of work. They keep using the term "my truth" if one believes "truth" is something one just believes then if she says she is native that is her truth. Of course if you believe biology has some bearing on which groups you belong to it opens up another can of worms. I think it is just best for everybody to simply accept she is a Native American. This is the issue with the extreme left, or even extreme right it is falls apart when you try to apply logic to it, this of course is the whole reason to shut down debate on any of these topics because people know once you start applying logic the whole facade comes down, that is why one must never be allowed to discuss or think about this in the first place.

In some ways I admire this this person, they played the game have been richly rewarded. If they try to take her down they must than acknowledge biology matters, but if they do that then as they say in chess they expose their King, because we are told that biology does not matter. Check mate bitches Prof. Hoover just became a grandmaster!!!! Well played, very well played, and lets face it this is all just a game for power, none of these people care about the issues. In fact BLM has now lead to a increased number of blacks being murdered the past two years, that is thousand and thousands of people. In case anyone cares about math 1000 > 20, where 20 are the max possible number of unjustified killings of blacks. But keep putting that BLM sticker on your twitter feed.

Just to be clear I am not just after the woke, that far right or any extreme religious thought falls into the same trap. Namely they ignore logic and math or are odds with it.

What? Elizabeth Warren isn’t the only one? Who knew?

Some are calling for UC Associate Professor Elizabeth Hoover to resign for falsely identifying herself as Native American. For almost guaranteed hiring and promotional opportunities at UC and LLNL, stated identity has and does matter. I’m not saying hiring or promoting Native Americans over other equally qualified individuals is a good or bad thing. But, if she knowingly made false claims and that’s a big if, and doesn’t get fired, expect other career opportunists to jump on that employment escalator.

On the other hand, by todays standards of self-identity, a female can claim to be a male, and a male can claim to be a female, and presumably, switch back as those self-identities shift over time. Therefore by todays standards, if this UC Associate Professor has identified herself through her work, her sincere beliefs, and practices as a Native American, does this meet the standard for career opportunities afforded to genetically confirmed Native Americans? This is no doubt a can of worms.

Many Americans through places like Ancestry.com, 23andMe, and other DNA testing services, are learning they are 20%, 30%, or more Native American or of Alaskan Native American descent. Even with such genetic confirmations, I believe they are NOT entitled to college scholarship opportunities or other Federal benefits unless they are a “member in a federally recognized Native American, or Alaska Native tribe”.

In 2023, is it an individuals belief or biology, that determines Federal recognition of one’s identity for scholarships, other benefits, or OFCCP hiring and promotion requirements for Federal Contractors like LLNS or Triad?

In New Mexico and California, Hispanics partially those for decent from Mexico typically have 25-50% Native or heritage, how do they count? They usually just say Hispanic. Of course you can have people that genetically are 40$ native, 60% European from Spain and who do not speak a word of Spanish and have no cultural ties at all to Mexico. Of course you also have people from Mexico that go back multiple generations with 100% European blood who speak only Spanish and culturally Mexican, how do you count those. Say what you want but culture/race does have at some aspect of social construct.

There should be no special funds based on immutable characteristics in the first place… so I’m all for gaming the system to claw back money.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
