LANL cowboys scientist screw up yet again.

U.S. Energy Dept gets two ransom notices as MOVEit hack claims more victims.

The DOE contractor Oak Ridge Associated Universities and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, the New Mexico-based facility for disposal of defense-related radioactive nuclear waste, were hit in the attack, which was first reported on Thursday.

WIP was a disaster due to the cowboy scientists at LANL. A bunch of people from LANL have moved to ORNL and made it go cowboy. Nanos was right as long as there are cowboys or scientists at LANL we will have problems. What is done at LANL that cannot be done elsewhere? Yet another scandal.

You guys got rid of Bechtel and here we are 3 yeas latter with cowboys riding horses.

Wow, how much butthurt can linger just because Nanos called you guys “cowboys”. Seems pretty tame. What if Nanos had called the LANL scientists what they actually were? Whoa, that would have made you exponentially more butthurt. Fun fact: Nanos doesn’t care about any of this and nobody who worked with him after LANL (I.e. when he was a DTRA) cared either.

(1) What actually are LANL scientists? I suspect you have no idea of what they do, how they do it, what they publish, and how many of them left LANL after Nanos for other labs and academic positions. I bet you have no idea how many papers they publish year or the impact that they have.

(2) Nanos was never a scientist, he did some very mediocre Ph.D work and never did any science after that. Anyone who interacted with him can attest to him having no real scientific understanding of LANL or any of the NNSA labs. He was the least scientifically and technically qualified of any Director that LANL had, even Wallace was light years beyond this guy.

(3) The LANL scandal followed Nanos after he got fired. He never had even close to the same level of position. His position at DTRA was symbolic he never had any real power there and nobody would interact with him because he was poison. He did not last very long there either. Yes someone of us know people in DTRA and heard all the rumors. Also plenty of people interacted with him after LANL and said he was a different man, lost all the swagger and attitude. Many described him as a broken man. I knew a LANL person who was around when Nanos was in charge but is now professor at one of the best unversities in the nation. He sat next to Nanos on flight out of DC one day and said when Nanos figured out he was formally at LANL, was very downcast and almost frightened. My buddy said he actually felt sorry for the guy.

Your assessment is so far off I have to ask how did come to the idea that no one at DTRA cared either? I take you do not know a single person in DTRA.

As far as 10:12 goes, I was going to respond but the level of butthurt over Nanos really says it all. It’s sad to see this level of obsession. You must think about the “cowboy” comment every day.

Your response speaks for itself, so we can dismiss the 5.45pm post as misinformation. In general whenever you see someone post fake news and you call them out and they do not or cannot respond you can confirm it is fake. The lack of response says it all.

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
