2024 Nobel Peace Price

The Nobel Peace Prize this year went to a group of atom bomb survivors in Japan who have advocated for bombs not to be used, on account of the suffering it might well cause:

There was a TV show in the 1950's dramatizing the story of a survivor:

I think we should stop killing puppies too. There are thousands more like me. Should we get a prize?

Plans to use chemical weapons against Japan were later declassified, although it is not clear to what extent this would have happened:

The Japanese committed a lot of war crimes, including the use of chemical and biological weapons which may have killed more people than the nuclear bombings:

This is also some interesting history, the United States came up with a novel plan to weaponize bats for use against Japan:

The special torpedoes needed for the shallow depths at Pearl Harbor were designed and built at Nagasaki.

Well maybe they should have not bombed Pearl Harbor. Just a thought.

It is amazing that if you go to Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines that they are to this day still angry at the Japanese. Some estimates have it that the Japanese killed up to 10 million people in these countries. Look at Nanking for example. Japan also killed hundreds of thousands of people with biological weapons, more that the atomic bombs. Read about Unit 731. Do you have any doubt that Japan would have used a nuclear weapon if they got it first? I have heard the arguments that Japan was beaten and was going to surrender however If you know anything about how they fought in the Pacific Islands I really doubt they would have surrendered. The bomb was just so overwhelming that they had to surrender. In the end it not only saved American, lives but also the allies lives such as Russian and one thing that is overlooked is it saved Japanese lives as well because of how many would have died during the invasion.

I have no problem with anti-nuke groups and even protests, they emphases how harsh the weapons are, which is part of the deterrence. However I think many of these people are very naive about history and even human nature.

I do not think this prize is deserved but the Peace prize has been very political with lots of odd winners. I do not think this is the worse on ever given out.
