Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Just kidding, the 2027 or 2035 is just hype to pump up stocks. Most faculty do not believe AI in its current form or that LLML can reach AGI since it is not intelligent. Now new approaches could could come along but we do not have these right now. In fact more and more issues with AI are being found. This is not surprising among the actual researchers who have been doing AI work for the past 10 years but it is to the general public that have believes the news feed on AI.
