Meet Mr. Doesburg
John Doesburg is the principal associate director for Global Security.
The newly created Global Security organization encompasses the Nonproliferation, Homeland and International Security directorate, and portions of the Energy and Environment directorate.
It features six divisions — Nonproliferation; Radiological and Nuclear Countermeasures; Chemical and Biological Countermeasures; Infrastructure and Force Protection; Energy and Environmental Security; and International Assessments. It also includes the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center and the Security Awareness for Employees (SAFE) program.
Before coming to the Laboratory, Doesburg worked for two-and-a-half years as the University of Tennessee-Battelle’s director of Homeland Security and a program director in the national security directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
Previously, he served in the U.S. Army for 35 years, retiring as a major general.
In his last Army position, he was the commanding general of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. This organization provides basic research, development, engineering and analysis of warfighter systems, from concept to capability.
Doesburg has a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s degree equivalent in national security from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

What is a "master’s degree equivalent" anyway? Either he has a masters degree or he does not have a masters degree.
The "master's degree equivalent" is an Army scheme to make it look as if some of its officers have an advanced degree even though they are unable to get one at a real university. It's a joke.
His organization is one of the most bloated at the Lab, and is the reason most working in that area are so discouraged. And the ridiculous process being done to dole out the pathetic amount of PMC hasn't helped.
As a CGSC graduate, I agree that a masters degree equivalent is a joke. I can't believe that someone at LLNL would have the nerve to mention that as an academic achievement. Does he think we will be impressed? I guess ULM really does not understand.
He wants us to believe that a masters degree equivalent is substantially equivalent in the aggregate to a real masters degree.
Who cares about the degree or lack of one.
Is this the same nutjob who headed the Land Warrior concept - having infantry hump cool-looking but tactically useless laptops and webcams on M4 rifles into combat?

The cameras are a joke. If the solder is smart he'll turn the damn thing off before the raid and make sure there isn't a reporter within a few miles of their objective, then get the job done leaving no witnesses.

A lousy BS in Chemistry is now a good enough science degree to land someone a high paying PAD position with LLNS? How pathetic.
It's a dead give away what degeree the people who've responded so far to this thread (for those of you who don't have a CS Masters Degree, this is a different type of thread than what you use to sew a hole in your socks)
Google your job title and see what the rest of the world is paying for your education and job skills.

i know technicians who have b.s. degrees in chemistry. I also would guess if they ever suggested they had the "equivalent of a masters degree" on their resume they would not be working at this place.
People. There's a lot more to being a valuable employee to an institution than having a degree. I know a lot of people with high degrees that can't tie their shoes without instructions and surly have no common sense or leadership abilities. To me the important question is what's Doesburg's ability to bring in work to the LLNL that'll keep us employed for many years to come.

How about a BS in Chemistry and 37 years of experience? Might that qualify someone? Major General is no small accomplishment either. Can you see past your academic arrogance long enough to appreciate that education without application is a dead end.
It is important to know how honest someone is being about their degree, or lack of thereof.
After all, we wouldn't want LLNL to be disraced like MIT was, would we?
