Workplace Substance Abuse Programs Equals VSIP Candidates

10 CFR 707
Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites
Public Forums via Videoconferencing

The public forums on the new drug testing and security clearance requirements for DOE contractors are scheduled for January 16, 17, 22, and 23, 2008, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time). The purpose of the forums is to give each contractor affected by the new requirements the opportunity to voice their views and assist the Department in identifying any issues requiring resolutions. The forums will be conducted via videoconferencing at DOE sites. Attached is a list of the videoconference sites with a call-in number for telephone participation. Please note videoconferencing will be linked on a first-come first-serve basis for each day. If you have any questions regarding the videoconference, please contact Bill McArthur or Jacqueline Rogers. Specific questions regarding video links and setups should be directed to HSS User Support at (301) 903-8358.

Additional information regarding drug testing requirements is located at:

Can't Do The Time, Don't Do The Crime

And the VSIP list just got a lot bigger than expected. It's either go now and take the severance pay or we'll catch you later and get you'll get the boot. It's your choice.

I'm assuming everyone in ULM will be tested first before any of the blue collar workers are called into medical or told to reports to a designated sampling station to pee in a bottle or to give a _hair folical_ for examination of previous long term usage, correct? Lets not do like we did their LLNS security clearances and over look the obvious.

One can only assume this means if you're a user and know eventually you're going to get caught you might as well take the incentive and run because if you don't stay at LLNL and get caught you won't get a dime if randomly tested and found positive via the drug testing policy. I agree 100%. If I were even an occasional user I'd take LLNS up on the VSIP severance package as soon as it was offered. It's better to have gotten something than to get nothing at all except to be unemployed with a record to follow.

Yes a VSIP should be offered. Lets hope that George hints on this Thursday.

No VSIP - No lottery winners at LLNL. The druggies will get a chance to admit they have a problem and go through rehab IF they ask prior to drug testing - otherwise they boot you out the door and take your clearance. If you're doing illegal drugs, and work at LLNL, then you're in the wrong line of work.

I agree that doing druggs and working at LLNL dont mix. While I also shudder at companies requiring mandatory drug testing, any person who supports LLNL by working for them has already compromised their personal liberties--- (either by working on weapons or by building up the Big Brother state through development of homeland surveillance technologies...) yeah- its ironic to me that someone who builds spy-cams would claim that their own behaviors should be held away from public scrutiny.
