Are there any scientists who visit this blog?

Thief said, in response to a comment in another post:

Don't flatter yourself in your comparisons. The real scientists do not visit this blog often, if at all.

You may be right....although you commit a glaring error in logic in your making that claim (I wonder if you know what it is....that's cool we'll leave it as a homework assignment for you) Anyway, does anybody in the lab scientific community regularly visit this blog and if so are you finding the increased paperwork burden and work control requirements a hindrance to your work?

Every day on my web crawl, the comment is from a troll.

Increased paperwork burden and work control requirements is not a major hindrance to my work. My major gripe is working for Brett Knapp who has no business leading a weapon physics division. It's ironical that Knapp (an engineer) forced an engineer (Mike Haertling) out of weapon design management because he had no fundamental knowledge of weapon physics. I also have no confidence that Knapp has LANL's best interests in mind. Knapp has an overly high opinion of himself and his opinions.

yes, I am a real scientist, who is being harassed by PLS do not know what to do anymore. tired of it, I just want to do good science for the nation. I love my work. I see so much dishonest behavior. I am scared.

I guess everything's cool! Science seems copacetic with the way things are working.

Good to know!

Interesting how censorship in a thread by the moderator leads almost immediately to a complete shutdown of interest in posting in that thread. It would be fun to know whether this is a global effect on blogs or just this one. Here, by my own observation over several years, it is pretty consistent. Maybe lack of interest = lack of posts = lack of problems for the moderator. Take that logic to its conclusion.

What "censorship"? I've made 3 or 4 posts about what I consider "work" related issues. There are usually 5 or 6 vague responses. But post about who is going to be the next director or what "Mikey" got while at LANL and the board goes nuts.

On this thred, there have been at least three posts that appeared for a day or less and then were deleted, presumably by the moderator. They were strong opinions, but not profane or libelous, as far as I could tell. The same pattern has happened elsewhere on this blog. If you aren't a frequent (at least once a day) visitor you probably wouldn't notice, which I think is the moderator's hope. He abandoned "real time" approval years ago but still exercises his ability to delete posts he doesn't like quite regularly.

I'm really disappointed in X-Division for not getting in Knapp's face. X-Division has dwindled down to a bunch of yes men and cowards. Sad, but true!

deletion...baloney. sho me the proof.

I would set a few (s few as possible) very explicit rules (profanity, libel, far off topic) and then get out of the way. "Poor taste" is way too fuzzy and subjective.

what is bad taste fori me might for 50% of the visitors and that is good enough for me. Objectivity is hard to achieve. We are talking about a BLOG here, not the wall st journal!

Why is a blog owner an arbiter of poor taste? Why do you care? The comments you perceive as in poor taste reflect on the poster, not on you. Apparently everyone understands that but you. Are you just naturally inclined to censorship of things you don't like?

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
