Looking for Herbert Moore...

My grandfather Herbert Moore worked at the Lawrence Livermore Lab Site 300 back in the late 1950's-early 60's. He passed away in 1962 from "leukemia" but it was later found out that he had been exposed to something on site and his true cause of death (radiation poisoning) was revealed in a private lawsuit that my grandmother received a small settlement from the government. Everything was very hush hush.
I am trying to find out what possibly occurred at that site during that time frame that could have caused this. We are also trying to track down any information at all we can find on my grandfather as we are tracing our family history. At the time this happened the government must have wiped out all records to do with my grandpa because it's as if he doesn't exist.

Any chance anyone has any information at all that might point me in the right direction? I think our family has a right to know.

This is fifty years ago and it will be very difficult to track down for two additional reasons: classification of programs and the lawsuit. Site 300 was dominated by the organization called B Program/Division today. There is also a lab historian you might be able to contact. Based on my experience it is unlikely that he was exposed at Site 300. This period was during the Nuclear Test Moratorium when he might have been involved in other activities.

Your grandpa might have been taking those daily flights to the Nevada Test Site perhaps?

DOE has a publication that provides the name of the Nevada Test Site (NTS) event and date to begin identifying which shots he might have participated on and whether he might have been present during any above ground tests.

Also, based on information you provided, have you also submitted a claim through the Department of Energy Employees' Occupational Illness Compensation Program? Once you do that DOE must provide his exposure and work records. The process is slow so be prepared.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
