Is LLNL working in the national interest? Is LLNL a national asset or a national liability? Why are you still working at LLNL? These are questions that strike at the core of the issues that surround the deterioration of what was once a very important laboratory.

After reading that nonsense, I finally understand Paul Simon's song partially titled "... desultory phillipic."

One needs to be kinda spacey, alive but subrational, like a person that stood up too fast or coughed too hard, to glimpse the meaning held within...

Very interesting. People seem to forget that it was Moses' arrogance that led to the technical failure of the laser isotope separation program due to liquid metal embrittlement of the collectors. People like Ed and Parney repeat their behaviors as they move up the management chain. History is often a good predictor of the future. To paraphrase, we seem to be reliving it in these two individuals. While the two are not exactly peas in a pod they each in their own way appear to be equally destructive when it comes to guiding an organization as important as LLNL.

Parney is at the helm. His decision. LLNS is not being ran effectively or in good faith with its employees. Parney could elect to make a difference or not. To this point he has not engaged the issues in a material way. What issues? LLNS TCP1 contribution controversy, Akima/FTE changes to policy, highly paid top heavy management of non-producers, etc.

Parney is a good man,doing the best he can with a very difficult, dysfunctional, egotistical group of government bureaucrats. At least he communicates with us, whether it is good, or bad news. He has made strides to modernize LLNL, and bring us somewhat up to speed with modern social media technology. This fosters better communication. I for one think he is doing as good a job as resources allow. Walk a mile in his shoes, then judge.

Do not assume that because these are "issues" on this blog that they matter at all to LLNS management. I suspect there are much more serious problems that Albright needs to worry about. Your list is self-serving, juvenile, and parochial.

I wonder when people like you are going to realize pension and benefits concerns will always overrule anything else Parney has on his plate. People with a brain concern themselves with issues of their livelihood, security and welfare not science, facility or mission. Until Parney and corporate America understands that they'll continue to go down the toilet at Mach 1.

Workforce (that is the people who actually perform the day to day work) are part of the management triad. Failure to keep a happy dedicated work force (not to be confuse with happy managers) is a amateur's error.

If you had been around the Labs much in the last few years, you would understand. Large fractions of the work force will remain chronically unhappy until the Labs return to the old UC run model. Or they retire. Since the former is only a pipe dream, that leaves them in the workforce for some time. Parney understands this reality and should not waste effort to consider delusional concepts.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
