When is Monya Lane leaving? It was published she was leaving last June, but no date given and she is still here. I understand not having interim director Brett Knapp having to decide this but couldn't someone in Engineering who will probably remain with LLNL do a better job than Monya as a lame duck? Plus LLNL would save an AD salary!
Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Good ones included Steve Patterson, Ron Carr, Jens Mahler, and Jeff Williams.
On the bad side, remember Spiros Dimolitsas?
And everybody who was around at the time will have their own strong opinions (plus or minus) about Tony Chargin.
Engineering AD used to be an important position, that maintained and advanced the backbone of the Lab. I think this changed during Steve Patterson's tenure, and this was the reason he left. Since then, it's been hard to get heavy-hitters interested in taking the job.
LLNS is confronted with the same problem as they search for a new LLNL Director.

An interesting analogy. Any gambler with the history of NIF would have had both kneecaps broken long ago. Just shows that NNSA officials would never make it as casino operators in the big time.
Jeff and I worked on a very unique prototype NOVA harmonic converter together ! Great experience, good guy !
Thanks Jeff !
Actually, the Laser Engineering and Physics side of NIF delivered the goods ! LLNL can be proud of that.
Those protected by Uncle Ed, have not directly experienced the programmatic funding subsidies on the backs of other LLNL programs, or force in and purge out staffing practices. When completed, I'm sure the transcontinental railroad beneficiaries were proud too. What's this talk of Chinese immigrant abuse? We are trying to have a celebration here.
Maybe Steve Patterson read the tea leaves correctly and decided to leave with his integrity intact.
