In a 2012 seminar, Sandia Labs made a presentation titled “Strawhorse: Attacking the MacOS and iOS Software Development.” The lecture illustrated how a comprised version of Xcode makes it possible to get access to iPhone and iPad data, or create “backdoors” on Mac computers, as well as turn off key security features on Apple devices. Exactly how the agencies planned to get developers to use the comprised software code was not specified.

At least Sandia is doing some relevant intelligence work. Meanwhile, LLNL is recalculating another "event" and trying to improve high-foot yields.

The US government love you. That's why they spend all this money and time watching everything you do. They just want you to be "safe", that's all.

Well, that and they want you to love them back in return. It's the least you can do to return all the stuff that they do to keep you on the straight and narrow path.

Yes, they are in your Apple iPhone, watching your Google browser, in the highway license reading security cameras that track your cars, listening closely to all the mics being placed on all big city light posts. etc, etc. It's just a sign of their great love for the American public!

Now, go back to sleep and don't question authority. It's bad for your health.

Adam Rowen does not have a PhD and is no longer the manager of the materials chemistry department at Sandia! You should hear what many of the staff members in his former department have to say about him.

Sandia engages in ALOT of WFO that would be considered criminal activity when light is shed on it. They use classification to shield such activity from scrutiny.

They are also notorious for categorizing every miniscule thing as OUO to exempt it from FOIA requests. This is done more to hide work and analysis with a high risk of embarrassment and regret attached to them, from any public view. Some of their "creative interpretations" of the OUO guidelines to justify to themselves OUO markings makes you wonder if you are trapped in the Twilight Zone.

It is the WFO sponsors that mandate the "OUO" designation, since they certainly don't want public release and the rules of their agencies are looser for OUO marking than DoE's rules are. You need to understand that under the FOIA, "OUO" designation does not "exempt" any document from FOIA; it just means that release is not automatic without specific review.

As for March 29, 2015 at 1:34 PM, classification rules are set by agency, and by DOE WFO rules, DOE contractors must respect other agency classification rules. Plus, "alot" is not a word in the English language.

I too noticed the wild and far-fetched creativity used in how OUO exemptions are selected, regardless of whose standards you use, DoD, DoE, whatever. And it's clearly being done intentionally to create opaqueness. Many of the times, their first decision criterion is "should it be OUO" and the answer is immediately "yes", followed by very very creative selection of which exemption is to be used. This is a de facto means of hiding even the most pedantic information. When the reviewer does the keyword search to trawl documents, then looks at the exemptions, they go along with the marking instead without challenging the incorrect markings. This is a widespread problem of people in certain areas. The intentional nature of the mismarkings demonstrates that many of these people are committing crimes.

Oh get real. What "crimes"?? Care to cite a statute that criminalizes incorrect OUO markings? Drama Queen. OUO markings do not keep documents from public release, they just delay it. What information absolutely necessary to your personal life and survival are you being denied access to?? Or are your the self-appointed traffic cop here?

This news of badly compromised Apple iPhones must be doing wonders for the sell of these smart phones overseas. Given the news stories of the last year you have to wonder why anyone who lives outside of the US would ever buy another US tech product.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
