Amazon culture
Amazon culture has an enduring nature of success
It is worth exploring that when organizations have success it is often attributed to their culture, yet when failure after failure piles up for years on end, there is a resistance to attribute it to culture. Is there a double standard at play here?
"In a letter sent to shareholders on Tuesday, Amazon.com Inc's founder and chief executive, Jeff Bezos, defended the online retailer's corporate culture, which was the subject of a critical report by The New York Times last year.
Bezos noted the enduring nature of corporate cultures in his annual letter to shareholders.
"The reason cultures are so stable in time is because people self-select," he wrote. "Someone energized by competitive zeal may select and be happy in one culture, while someone who loves to pioneer and invent may choose another," he said, adding that Amazon has never declared that its approach is the "right one."
Amazon was the subject of a months-long investigation by the Times, which depicted the company as having a bruising corporate culture that edged out workers who had been evaluated harshly by their peers and managers."

I have an idea. Why don't we all maintain our personal identities and use work as a way of exchanging our services for a salary?
This "culture" stuff is recent in US history. If I wanted so much social control I'd join a cult.
It isn't enough we have idiots who write "culture, culture, culture..." on every single thread now we have threads about culture elsewhere? What does this have to do with non-profit or for-profit status for the labs? I think the world "culture" and the phrases "Bechtel good" and "LANL bad" should be banned from this blog as we have seen it without anything to back it up again and again. Show us some proof, not some article about some other place, or get off the blog. Some example, article or something besides your hate.

Talk about a one trick pony.
And what does it have to do with NIF, "Star power on Earth"

Nothing on this blog should ever have anything to do with NIF. NIF is a well-flogged, very dead horse, no longer deserving of anyone's attention, except for the obsessed few who still feel outraged, maltreated, badly used, and personally and professionally hurt by NIF and its self-centered and self-serving managers. Plus the two or three people who still think that NIF 1) stands a chance in hell of actual ignition, or 2) actually has relevance to nuclear weapons physics. Neither is true and NIF should go the way of all over-hyped and under-performing stupid physics ideas.

A short sighted view. Columbus was trying to get to India but ended up finding
a new world. Back than people like you would say Columbus failed just as you now say NIF has failed, it is exactly the same thing.

Really?? How many decades did it take Columbus? How many times did he have to go back to Isabella to ask for more money because success was "right around the corner"? Exactly how long should US taxpayers fund something that has shown absolutely no chance of success because it might eventually "find something" it wasn't even looking for?

Sorry 8:35, but you don't seem to get it. If you take the time to look at the NNSA FY17 Stockpile Stewardship Plan you will see that NNSA plans to fund NIF at the same level as all other science and engineering programs combined. In layman's terms, NIF is eating everybody's lunch ! NIF captures 50% of all money devoted to the scence of stockpile stewardship. What kind of BS is that?!

It is clear evidence that BS actually works.
NIF should be closed immediately to return the "science" back to SBSS.
