Not sure what to make of this. He may of done well at NTS but I have no idea if that is true or not. At LANL he was considered a bit of flake an not the brightest guy. He was in T-Div at some point and seemed incredibly insecure.
Despite this he still may do a good job if can can recognize good people and motivate others. This is a quality that has been lacking in NNSA lab leaders for some time now. - 12/18/2016 7:30 PM

Just read is bio. http://www.icseng.com/previous/2011/keynotes/younger.pdf
Compared to Jill Hruby, he's a veritable Albert Einstein. He has a PhD, publications, experience as an actual nuke designer / computational physicist and a pulse. That's a lot more than you can say about Paul Holmert's successor, who was appointed by Moniz under affirmative action rules. - 12/18/2016 8:23 PM

Compared to Jill Hruby, Daffy Duck would be an improvement.

I know Steve Younger to be extremely arrogant and very non communicative. While he was at LANL he used to just "blow off" folks when they would ask him for the basis of his decisions. Basically, don't ever question his logic and decisions, to do so will end your career. Good luck with that guy Sandia, you'll love him! :( - 12/20/2016 3:59 AM

I knew Younger to be extremely intelligent and to not tolerate fools gladly. Perhaps that was your problem.

I knew Younger to be extremely foolish and to not tolerate intellects gladly. Perhaps he liked your foolishness.

I am not doubting your opinion but my experience is just opposite. He was very intimated by real scientists and many felt he was kind of joke and
was not taken seriously or "tolerated" by anyone I know. Some of the stuff he was saying about complexity was downright foolish and just pathetic. The thing about Younger being "extremely intelligent" just does not ring true by any of the interactions I have witnessed. I would say he came across as a intellectual wannabee that was utterly insecure about himself particularly in the presence of real scientists.
That being said if he managed the NTS site well than perhaps he can do well at Sandia. - 12/20/2016 7:58 PM

Nothing says "welcome to the Honeywell family, we are looking forward to working with the 12,000 employees, contractors, students, and postdocs at Sandia. Have a great holiday season." like 120 hours and counting of complete silence from NTESS.
BTW domain squatters can still pick up some permutations of this LLC name. - 12/20/2016 11:34 PM

The NTESS team may not go public until after the 10 day period that the losing teams can file a protest.

Where did the 10 day window come from?

Where in the RFP does it say that the contractor is prohibited from reaching out to its future employees?
https://nnsa.energy.gov/aboutus/ouroperations/apm/majcontrsolicitation/snlcomp/final-solicitation-document-de-sol-0008470
Per the last two sentences of Sec J Amd 1, the contractor needs to claim it is ready to assume full responsibility for NNSS before it can also take over SNL.

Seems a little strange to have such a requirement. - 12/21/2016 9:35 PM

Not if the Sec J Amd 1 was simply a cut and paste from the NSTec RFP. Lazy Feds at work here!

One odd thing I did see with Younger is that some really dumb, sad, pathetic cucks would suck up to him. It was really disturbing and uncomfortable watch. In some ways I do not blame the cucks as they where just trying to do what they had to do in order survive seeing as that they had no other skills than being suckups, but it was the fact that Younger seemed to respond so positively to this that made it so weird.
In the end most of these cucks are long gone but some still remain at least on the bloggsphere I doubt many are around in either LLNL or LANL anymore. - 12/22/2016 8:52 PM

As another poster commented, the RFP could have been a cut and paste from the prior NNSS one and this is just a typo. What's odd here is that of all the bid teams, and all the lawyers on them, no one caught this earlier and pointed it out to NNSA. Starts to make you wonder what other corners were cut by NNSA in running the competition?
