And so it begins.

The Los Alamos Daily Post has obtained a copy of an email issued this afternoon by the director of NNSA's Office of Governmental Affairs. The email states that DOE/NNSA will issue a public notice Tuesday alerting potential offerors of its intent to conduct a competition for the management and operating (M&O) follow-on contract for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
The public notice will be available on various websites for which links will go live by close of business Tuesday.

Another rumor is it stays as a for profit LLC. Bidders are Honeywell with U of Texas, UC with Batelle, Lockheed with ?

The fights between the PADS are coming out in full view as each of them leads their tribe on different teams. Funny to see how immature this makes the whole leadership look to the rest of the complex.

Oh, yeah it is utterly transparent at this point. What I find a bit bad is that many of the PADS, ADs and so on are not spending much time at the lab and everyone knows that they spending their time on bid teams. Not much is happening at LANL now, I mean besides sending Plutonium through UPS overnight mail.

What a bunch of BS. Teams have not formed. The PADS are not really desirable to lead anything as the are the face of LANS and the Feds will want new, not LANS.

The University of New Mexico said it has been approached by several bid teams and is deciding what they are going to do, so yes bid teams are formed.

Outstanding! One of the best institutions in the city. Produces some of the top graduates in the county. Admits only the highest of the high school students from the surrounding area. Generates superior managers for LANL.

You don't really understand how this works, do you? Talk to someone who went through it before.

Bid teams CANNOT already have formed BEFORE the competition has been announced. What would they be bidding on???? It's perfectly possible that there will be more than one contract issued. Possibilities include separate contracts for environmental remediation, TA-55 production, weapons and science R&D. It's also possible that some organizations could be excluded from bidding. It's happened before.

NO company would enter into an agreement to participate on a team and fund a bid before they know exactly what they're bidding on.

Amazing how many fakers out there "know" what's going on before the announcement.

They are most certainly formed, they have to be to get the leg up when the official call comes. But yes teams are now formed.

Some PADS could be part of teams, others not. Same story on AD and DL ranks. Look for lots of new people from outside to provide fresh faces.

Lots of Fake News here as usual.

Literally who cares. It will change nothing. Same thickheaded "LANL is the best" culture for the next 20 years even after they take away all production facilities.

So many unknowns in the equation make it problematic to bound at this state of knowledge, however if the contract decision at Sandia offers any insight into the next competition, then there will be a 100% turnover in the top management. While some of Younger's minions had historical Sandia work experience, not one single one of them was an incumbent Sandia manager.

Come on, John Benner, the current Associate Director for Nuclear Weapons (ADW), is already publicly touting and boasting that he's been solicited to be LANL's Laboratory Director for an undisclosed major firm. You heard it here first. LANL's new Laboratory Director, John Benner. By the way, a non-PhD, MS from UC Davis.

Dude, go talk to Benner, he's very proud and open about it. It seems they had to "twist" his big arm to concede as the proposed Director.

Director of what? Nobody knows how the contract will be structured. You don't know either. We all know that you don't know too.
Anonymous said…
Yea right, faker. Why do you post fake stuff?
Anonymous said…
Benner will never be director. He needs a Ph.D.

Nope, we have done the whole "Directors with Ph.Ds" and it does not work. Never has and never will.

Why would you say that? It is all perception in the end anyway and the perception is
that the labs have failed. Real or not, facts or no facts, that the perception and
perception is reality. The labs are bad, there are many PHDs at the lab, therefore get rid of the PHDS and the labs are no longer bad. That my friends is logic and it fits the data, and agrees with the perception.

No it is not "logic." Have you ever taken a course in "logic"? It is a learned skill, not a born one. Your most egregious logical fallacy is called "false cause." But you also commit "oversimplification" and "rationalization." Your argument is so specious it is laughable. Please stop trying to sound educated, you aren't. Come to think of it, please just go away.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
