Pattiz out from UC role in LLNS/LANS in 2018

Too little too late to save any hope for UC continued involvement in NNSA. Pattiz was a running joke and UC put up with his behavior for way too long.

So UC is really going for. By the way if one wants to know the real story, during the contract change Bechtel was given the impression that their role was to punish UC and LANL and that they would really be ones running to lab to bring in all these great business improvements and save tons of money. Of course not only did none of improvements happen but it only got worse. But make no mistake at the time Bechtel was given the nod they are in charge not UC and hence the disaster that have now. NNSA/DOE have long since realized their mistake and now want UC to be charge.

UC without Pattiz might be worth working for.

Bechtel is not now and has never been in charge of LANS.

He run out of gum or something?

It appears that LANS nuclear air shipment is taking it's toll at the 11th hour; too little too late. Klotz finally making the calls. Note that Ellen Tauscher is taking over.

It is simple - UC has lost the LANS contract but desires to retain the LLNS contract and Tauscher has her marching orders to make it stay. Remember that for all practical purpose LLNS and LANS are one in the same entity.

never ever forget that UC FIRED Walp and Dorn...

You have no idea what you are talking about. I was there. UC did not fire Walp and Doran (not "Dorn," you putz). Busboom and Tucker, Walp's and Doran's immediate supervisors, fired them, and then UC fired Busboom and Tucker for firing Walp and Doran!!! How does that little inconvenient fact sit in your craw??

Tauscher is leagues more savvy than Pattiz. UC and its LLCS are the only org ever to have designed to build a US nuclear weapon.

No choice, everyone else is unproven.

LANS will not lose the LANL contract. Instead, they will bid on it and they'll probably win because of the lack of any other reasonable bids. When they do, Bechtel will be given even greater power over LANL.

Nothing ever changes for the better in the NNSA complex. Isn't that perfectly clear by now?

UC managed LANL. Busboom and Tucker were managers for UC, therefore UC is ultimately responsible for their conduct. Firing Walp and Doran (I'm not the Dorn moron) was reviewed by Browne and the UC board. Therefore UC DID fire Walp and Doran
.

Ultimately, UC apologized publically for UC's wrongdoing.

What wrongdoing. UC did the right thing everyone agrees on this. Sure it cost a bit of money but in order to protect the nation it was the right thing to do and is why UC won the rebid and why
it may win again, because power in DOE and NNSA recognize a good deed when they see one.

If you think that every firing of a Group Leader and his subordinate ASM was "reviewed by the UC Board," you know nothing about how LANL worked under UC.

Who cares about Walp and Dorn. The truth is there is no going back. Once profit is introduced, once tax revenue is introduced, there is no going back. A century of taxes and corporatization should make this clear to all.

Sooo, now what do we do to make the best of it? Find the best corporate person to run a lab. Any names?

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
