Curious timing

Curious timing on this little announcement by Bechtel...

Bechtel headquarters leaving San Francisco in favor of Virginia
Friday, June 8, 2018

Bechtel, the San Francisco-based engineering and construction behemoth, isn’t going to be based in San Francisco anymore. The company said on Thursday it was moving its headquarters to Reston, Va., near Washington, D.C., although it will maintain offices in San Francisco.

“Consolidating the corporate leadership and operations in Reston will enable the company to thrive in the current fast-paced business environment — one that demands faster and seamless decision-making, integration and collaboration,” said Jack Futcher, the company’s chief operating officer."

You must be closer to your "enemies" er I mean friends in Washington, less distance for the offers that cannot be refused to be made.
The Bay Area is also starting to get wise to these guys.

Probably the senior execs are tired of paying California taxes.

Let's face it, it's also much more expensive to do business in California. Many companies have packed their bags for more business friendly states in the union. The big exodus will come in a few years when Jerry Brown's new urban water use regulations go into effect - 55 gallons per person per day. You will not be able to do the dishes and laundry on the same day you take a shower. VERY steep fines for violators. It's also quite amazing how many people have absolutely no idea about this.

Just another regulation the California liberal Democrats didn't think through. What do you do if you're a single person and cousin Edna and her family of 5 comes to visit? You will surely go over your 55 gallon water allotment, then what? Do you have to file paperwork to avoid paying the fine? Does Edna need to file a affidavit attesting to your claim. Do you need to supply video of the cousins flushing the toilet to the California water police? It's time for new leadership in California. The state is falling apart.

Employees were told about this move months ago. To the original poster, what could be "curious" about the timing? Do you think the Bay Area wasn't big enough for the two organizations? The dots people try to connect....

Our CA population has about doubled since 1970, and we haven't kept up with the corresponding water demand. Yes, new CA leadership is long overdue, or the creation of a new state or states, and not just because of the water issue.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

Rumor corner

LLNS may have excluded the wrong people in last VSSOP? The exclusions were based on outdated job categories and related skills. ULM are now thinking that in the future, job categories and functional areas will have to be re-defined. The next VSSOP/ISP will be based on the new categories and functional areas. The questions I have are: 1) Why didnt they think of that before the transition. It seems like their style is “change things as you go”. Planning is out the window! 2) Who will give input on the new changes? The next RIF apparently is going to be more lucrative than the VSSOP. Depending on the length of employment, a RIFed person, not only gets their 1 week pay per year of service but also from 30 to 120 days notice, essentially 30 to 120 days pay. Please feel free to comment on the rumors or add new ones you actually heard.
