Stop moderating blog

"If you stopped moderating comments altogether the stale blog would improve. Few care any longer."

A little harsh. The blog moderator needs to operate the blog as he deems appropriate, but he has been open to helpers. Are you interested? By the way, employees and retirees are still interested in value of this blog and have been since its inception, when LLNS took over operational management of LLNL.

How do you define "improve"??

A flood of bait and counter-posts would make this blog a paradise for those that think posting such tripe is "fun".

The trolls with their innuendo, fake news, and personal smears of character so overwhelmed this blog that very little of the original LLNL community remained. Scooby asserted his ownership of the blog and suppressed the troll posts. The post count has dropped, but at least the blog is clear of the junk that made the place utterly unattractive for someone actually trying to find factual information.

No one is stopping you from making your own blog and posting all the crap you want there. In fact I'm sure Scoopy would encourage you to leave here and do that instead of demanding he re-open the floodgates. It's his blog, his rules. He runs the thing, neither you nor I do.

Let the blog be a blog, and let the contributors and viewers make up their own minds on whether the content is factual, slanted or bias that's what debate and open conversation is all about, isn't that what a REAL blog is supposed to do?

I get moderating some extreme name calling and defaming character and such, but YELP has a more open blog than this one has become.

Time to replace the tombstone of LLNL and make make an image of Scooby.

RIP the True Story.

Maybe one should consider what people associated with LLNL (or LANL) actually want to talk about, instead of what Scooby deems appropriate for them to talk about. But you're right, his blog, his rules. Seems rather uninviting and autocratic, which we already knew about Scooby.

I am open to suggestions. If you can help, it will be appreciated. If not, feel free to stop visiting.

I do not decide to publish posts and comments based on my opinion but based on whether they confirm to basic rules of the blog. Please feel free to maintain your own blog. I will not be offended. I promise.

That's a bit disingenuous, given that you made up the rules, don't you think?

These are ruled of decency. If you do agree, do not visit. Besides, if I was this horrible dictator, you will never see comments like yours published.

You didn't answer the question. They are "rules of decency" according to YOUR rules of decency. How is that conflict of interest not apparent to you? "If you do agree, do not visit." Really? Look, if you are so tied up in this that you can't even, as moderator, proofread your own posts, then there is obviously a problem. You chose, years ago, to begin active moderation of this blog. I contend the result has been less than favorable in terms of honesty, truthfulness, and willingness of posters to state their true opinions, for fear of censorship. The range of opinions has decreased significantly but you will argue the blog is more "civil." I would argue to let go the censorship of all but blatantly obscene or pornographic content, and let freedom ring, like the First Amendment intended. In case you didn't notice none of the content here reflects on you. No one cares about the moderator.

And 90% of the posts are from people. My job is not to spell check everyone of them.

Likewise, during my term as co-moderator the only rejected posts were violations of the posted rules of behavior. No magic keywords, no hidden agendas - just strict enforcement of the rule book. Anyone with a lick of common sense could compare the text of a post to those rules and pass/fail just like Scooby and I did.

But there had to be a few malcontents that thought otherwise. They came up with conspiracies and weird stories about my moderation. And like so much today, I'm presumed guilty merely because someone made the accusation - no evidence or proof needed.

I did not step down from the co-moderation slot because of pressure from the trolls. They're like the Flat-Earth advocates who deny and cherry-pick their way through a thread in order to make their arguments look good. So don't gloat about having won some imagined battle, the dragon merely sleeps.

Deleting a reasoned, non-abusive complaint/criticism is what you guys are all about, apparently. This will be deleted too, but at least one fan of this blog (but not you) knows about your dishonesty and disingenuousness. This great blog is ill-served by your arrogance and egos. I will continue to support this blog and push for your removal or retirement as moderators. Your usefulness here has ended. It only remains for you to recognize it.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
