Coronavirus and LANL- LLNL

Coronavirus topic: If this gets going will part of the LLNL and LANL be devoted to fighting this, at least in terms of modeling and large scale simulations? Which place will be the big break out US city? The sure bets are LA, SF, Seattle but my guess it is going be something like Denver or Orlando first. This is actually starting to like possible pandemic.

LANL already has some work on the including a recent paper saying the infection rate is higher than what most people think. I am not sure what more LANL or LLNL could add beyond the already current modeling, all of which looks grim.

On the other hand it is interesting to see that the big news in MSM is Bernie Sanders, diversity, and sexist jokes from Bloomberg, no one really seems to care about the coronaries even though WHO is saying the "window to contain this is quickly closings". Seems like we will have more relevant things to worry about than stop and frisk.

LANL could also do genetic modeling to help create a vaccine.

Starting to spread, just a matter of time until some one of the labs gets, particularly with all the travel and the number of people
moving though.

With all the travel that people do at the labs and all the visitors from all over the world how long do you think it will be before it hits the labs? It could really get going at LANL since everybody goes to the same stores ect.

The labs don't matter. Many more regular people travel internationally every day than the lab people do in a year. The labs aren't going to be any different than anyone else, they will be infected just like everyone.

Rumor is that someone at LLNL just tested positive for the virus. I guess it has to start sometime.

It is not in the news. Must be just a rumour.

HIPPA rules being what they are, anything could be true, and would be believed before it is true. What would make the contagion probability any different for lab employees?

When the LANL director was asked what the Lab was doing about the coronavirus, he detailed a long list of other labs that Lab managers have contacted to discuss the subject. He then said that some LANL tools could be used. In other words, nothing is being done. A very sad reaction common to bureaucrats, who confuse activity with action.

What is an employer to do, except send everyone home (an excellent choice)? The fewer people everyone interacts with, the sooner this is gone. STAY HOME!!!
