Management has no communication with employees, headless chickens...

-------

E-LINE: PRESUMPTIVE BUT UNCONFIRMED CASE OF COVID-19 AT LLNL

The Laboratory is taking several precautions following the report of an employee with a presumptive but unconfirmed case of coronavirus – COVID-19.

Out of an abundance of caution the decision was made to close building 551W for cleaning. All employees in that building have been sent home with instructions to return to work on Monday. Disinfection of the building has been completed.

The Laboratory was made aware of the employee’s presumptive case late Wednesday. Health Services has been in contact with the affected employee and has identified 23 people who had close business contact. Per CDC guidelines, those employees have been sent home for self-monitoring over the next 14 days.

Any employee showing signs of respiratory illness, including fever, should stay home until they are symptom free. People who identify as part of a high-risk group should contact Health Services for further guidance, 2-7462. High risk groups include people 60 and older, those with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease or diabetes and people who have weakened immune systems.

The Laboratory is suspending all business travel and visitors to the site through March 13. In addition, managers are encouraged to allow liberal use of telecommuting. Employees should discuss details with their supervisors. Large, in-person meetings are discouraged. Further guidance on the Laboratory’s response to this issue will be provided in upcoming communications.

All employees are encouraged to slow down and be deliberate in all actions; we realize this may be a distraction. For more information, including frequently asked questions and guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19, see the Health Services website.

Sounds like how the US and most of the world is dealing with this thing.

Everything is reactive, the problem is you have to be proactive with this virus. It is looking more and more like we are headed to the same state as China. Expect to be essentially locked down for a few months.

So the labs have shut down international travel. So lets play the time game. How long before

1. Domestic travel is cancelled.

2. All visitors are cancelled

3 Non-essential workers sent home

4. Most workers sent home.

This thing is going one way.

Sandia is already barring people from hot zones. How long until LLNL meets that criteria?

Gavin doing his best to accelerate the pandemic...

1 and 2 happened already.

The text posted is management communication with employees. Many emails and conversations taking place, too.

“Headless chickens” in the eye of the beholder.

You mean management does not talk to headless chickens?

The management of the National Labs has become classically bureaucratic and useless. They do not care about national security, efficiency, productivity, or world class science and engineering. Instead their focus is on mindless adherence to meaningless and often self-imposed guidelines, fealty to their NNSA overlords, and obtaining their “fee”. They are a shameful lot and becoming more useless and inbred by the day.

Since many managers have much in common with headless chickens, they could probably learn a thing or two from them.

I somehow get the feeling that something like this is happening in many other government institutions like say the CDC? Just a thought.

That is an affront to headless chickens! You apologize now, or I'll report you to management for femto-agressions and have you permanently canceled!

The labs will be closed before long. Not much time left.

Absolutely! Friday is only two days away. They will definitely close Saturday, you are correct!

Ha, ha, very funny but I would give it a 25% that one of the labs will be closed by Monday. By that I mean it will all non-essential people stay home. Hope I am a wrong.

Work from home where possible. Obviously not with classified work.

It should be noted that many lab workers have had classified dreams, and have never been prosecuted for this obvious infraction of security regulations, especially if they talked in their sleep. Some have even been reported to have had classified nightmares.

Since your name is secret, you must be my classified nightmare!
