December 19, 2020President-elect Joe Biden’s decision to nominate Jennifer Granholm — former governor of Michigan, lawyer, politician and television host — to be the next secretary of energy is curious.
The idea circulating is that her primary assignment, in Biden’s mind, will be to speed Detroit’s development of electric vehicles.

Forcing Detroit to make electric vehicles is a wonderful idea. Let the free market find the best solution. I mean what else do people do in the Department of Energy.
Americans will embrace electric cars when they make sense to do so, WITHOUT A TAX BREAK. When people pull back the curtain and see how electricity is generated and realize that deferring the carbon foot print from the exhaust pipe to the stack of the generating plant that is out of sight is NOT the answer. You want to reduce that carbon footprint, those nasty things called NUCLEAR plants need to be added to the equation.
What is the expense both in dollars and in environmental costs to deal with the batteries of the electric cars when they need to be replaced? We didn't think too far ahead when we pushed for the compact fluorescent bulb and then had to deal with recycle issue of the mercury.
But we'll do better this time. I've heard that phrase before.
If Ms. Granholm can bring a deep seated racial bias to the table, she can compete with Hazel O'Leary. Big shoes to feel in that regard.

You mean Perry... at least O'Leary had been in DOE before and knew how to get to Forrestal. Both Granholm and Perry had zero knowledge of DOE before becoming S-1.
