Memberships don't matter

It would be interesting to see a discussion of people's thoughts relative to security clearances and the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt. At LANL I have seen a few vehicles with "three percenter" stickers on them, and I know of a couple of people that talk as if they are in "oath keepers". Several media outlets report that both organizations had members that participated in the insurrection attempt.

I've never known of anyone that had their clearance denied or revoked due to membership in a radical left or radical right organization, and I believe most people that are interviewed as part of the clearance process (for acquaintances) know that the interview reports are available to the person under investigation. Hence I suspect that there is generally a reluctance to "out" someone for being a member of a radical organization.

I also now several people who look and sound like the could be members of the oath keepers, listen to Alex Jones or be part of some group that is like them. Should we make some some kind of hotline or way to report on these people?

John Brennan was back on MSNBC last week, contending American intel agencies “are moving in laser-like fashion to try to uncover as much as they can about” the pro-Trump “insurgency” that harbors “religious extremists, authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, even libertarians.” This is really scary because I know several people who are proud libertarians, what should I do?

In an era where CRT has been officially re-instated to federal facilities, I think witch hunts will return. It is REALLY good to be retired.

Retired people are a real concern since they cannot be fired. Perhaps we can freeze their bank accounts or cut their power.

Diversity talking points are generally accepted at the Lab, as long as those concepts and goals don't actually interfere with the advancement of employees in YOUR clique or sphere of influence. If you question the clique, you'll be the target of the real "witch hunt" and your career will be toast. As these (not walking the talk) institutional employment disparities bubbled to the surface, the diversity manager was born with little value added except to defend past actions of the employer. What should the Lab do next, create CRT managers? How would that change clique behavior?

In the past, I've had to hide my and my friend's affiliations from co-workers. In today's society, nothing was that radical: LGBTQ+, different religion, no religion, married to different (race/sex), wants equality, etc.

Depending upon where one lives, these are still radical thoughts. More so in the past four years.

I don't bring up my feelings on what society should be with co-workers. I expect my co-workers not to make snide remarks on my lifestyle, friends, or legal organizations.

I expect this is part of being a workforce. I don't expect everyone to be my friend.

I expect respect, and I expect to respect my co-worker. Even if they belong to a white nationalist party. Security clearances are the gatekeeper, not me.

I am a political conservative, but Brennan is a true fascist wannabe."Oath Keepers" need to be watched very closely, but he is insane. Luckily he has no power except for his appearances on TV. Still, he is very dangerous.

If you don't want snide remarks or consequences for you actions or who you voted for than do not support toxic politics.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
