Proposal for LLNL Vision statement draft:
We aspire to become an anti-racist and health-promoting research institution where:
Diversity, equity, shared governance, and expansive notions of excellence are core institutional values.
Wellness and an ethic of care are embedded throughout our campus culture and all policies and practices.
We invest in a resource-rich learning environment to support the development and success of citizens of plural identities and from diverse socio-economic, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Climate, environmental, and racial justice align with sustainable economic and planning decisions with local and global effects.
Community engaged scholarship, service, and reciprocity are embedded in University practices that promote the economic, social, and cultural well-being of the communities we serve
We hold ourselves and each other accountable to ensure these values drive all decision-making in research, pedagogical innovations, resource allocation, and the development of policies and practices.

Hmm, this cannot be real can it? I could not imagine any institution with a draft like this.
They forgot:
"But remember, our core mission is to assure that the things designed to wipe everything off the face of the earth still work."
By the way, I agree with that core mission. If you are going to speak softly but carry a big stick, make sure the stick is in proper operating status.
I like this but you should just have * at the end of proposed vision statement and in fine print have.
* "Also our core mission is to assure that the things designed to wipe everything off the face of the earth still work."
Pathetic woke nonsense.
An organically grown vision statement? A nudged vision statement from the NNSA? It’s really lipstick on a pig and irrelevant. The LLNS federal food trough is very dependable and loyal. In LLNS world, history shows neither their Prime Contract or their annual PER will evaluate and score such matters. In contrast, the free market private sector are self-encouraged to adapt and implement vision statements, since they can’t afford to be tone deaf.
Who thinks these days that organizations need "vision statements"? That's so 2000's. A bunch of old guys in upper management suffering from the trauma of the managerial nonsense of that decade.
Those words distill down to being "woke" is more important than defending the country, doing basic research, or providing critical assistance to other government entities.
IFF that document is an actual proposed mission statement and not a fabrication crafted by some prankster then we may as well shut down both LLNL and LANL. The DoE labs will have become nothing more than tourist attractions. People working there will be more concerned about how they act and are perceived by others rather than doing anything gainful like research. A "woke" equivalent of a monastery - filled with believers contemplating their navels while managers bustle about crafting illuminated documents on the latest methods ensuring that all fringe groups are empowered with critical decision-making abilities.
For now I'll assume this was someone's idea of a sick joke.
Thank goodness nepotism and cronyism didn’t make the chopping block. How else could LLNS attract and retain even more talentless wannabes to their already bloated clique list.
"For now I'll assume this was someone's idea of a sick joke."
It is not a sick joke I typed it in and it appears to be an actual proposed University vision statement. I am not sure if LLNL is actually going use this or if this is just going to be a standard mission statement for all academic or scientific institutes from now on, but it is no joke.
For now I'll assume this was someone's idea of a sick joke.

That's the value you used to bring to this blog. The rest of your post is just far-right nonsense.

You are allowed to have your opinion. I never considered myself far right or even on the right and I hold what what I consider classical liberal values. As for current issues I am for more reasonable gun controll, pro abortion, I do not want the church and state to mingle. I am for a strong military but I was never for these prolonged wars we have conduced in Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan. I am worried about the dangers of crony capitalism. With that I vote both Democrat and Republican depending on the candidate and have done so the whole time.
In any case I find your post puzzling because I cannot find anything far right in what GreggS posted or ever posted? Could you please try to explain why what Gregg is saying that is far right?
I think what is going on is that some portions of the left have defined classical liberals as being far right. For example they seem to be against freedom of speech, against freedom of press, pro violence, a return to segregation, have embraced racism, embraced cancel culture, devalue indvidual rights and embraced authoritarian government. Under their new definition Martin Luther King is far right, Bill Clinton is far right, the 60s culture was a far right culture, any kind pro freedom is far right and so on.
Let me ask you this, do you have any idea of what the actual far right ideology is? Apparently not, hint it just like far left ideology but you change the groups of people you hate and blame for any an all problems. In many ways I consider them to essentially be the same thing with foot over a human face.
The point is Gregg is certainly not far right. I generally agree with what Gregg says and I certainly am not far right. I would guess that you are much closer in spirt to the actual far right, you may disagree on the details with the far right but you certainly agree with the general philosophy.
Perhaps I am wrong and Gregg does embrace far right philosophies, could you please explain what they are.

I presume you are the same person that wishes to cut my pension off because you don't think I'm inline with CA politics, never deserved a job at LLNL either.
Because I don't care about the opinion of someone who thinks he's cute by being snarky from the shadows. Drop the anonymous posting and use your real name if you want to challenge me.
Am a true believer of progressive thought? Back it up - use your name. Otherwise you're just another troll, posting junk from a PC in your mom's basement and never worked a day at either LLNL or LANL.
"Benchrest shooting, cooking, writing software, science fiction, physics, chemistry."
Far right confirmed.
GreggS I am not sure if poster is their moms basement but I would guess that the world view of many of these people is this (If you agree with everything I believe) you are rational good person, else you are far right. I would have some respect for such of philosophy if they came up with it on their own but so often their beliefs are not their own and just just cookie cutter talking points off twitter. If all the sudden the far left said that clubbing seals was good, overnight anyone who does not club seals would be considered a far right fascist, without any hint of irony of absurdity, and it will be stated that this has always been the case. 'Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia'.
Lots of people bending over backwards to claim they aren't what they clearly are here.

How do I know it's his picture and even if it is, so what? Who knows him by sight?

Everyone knows his name is Julian Richings
I use my real name. Been using the tag GreggS in email for decades. The avatar is via Gravatar.com and is Julian R, in his role of the 4th Horseman of the Apocalypse in the fiction series Supernatural. The choice is related to my work in game development.
It's the name that matters. When I post here I sign the article so that folks can tell that I am serious about what I write. Signing these posts also forces me to take more time crafting the words used - I try not to let sloppy posts happen.
I was hoping it actually was Julian Richings or even better yet Death himself posting on the LLNL Blog.
Dear 8/17/2022 4:28 PM,
Why do you assume that Death is a "he" ?
Sincerely,
D.
The 4th Horseman was male, then female, followed by another female. The cosmic force of Light that created the world ( Chuck Shirley ) was male. The Darkness ( Amara ) opposing that force was female. Definite genders, no big deal.
I use an avatar of the original 4th Horseman because the character is better match to me than the follow-ons. Yes, I own the ring - it's a collector's item. My walking stick is similar in design as well.
And just as Death had little patience for the Winchester's babbling, it's time to say "Shut up Dean....". We've discussed the picture enough, time to move on.
Signed - GreggS

You have been dying since the day you were born
You know it's all been planned
The quartet of deliverance rides
A sinner once, a sinner twice
No need for confessions now
'Cause now you've got the fight of your life
The Horsemen are drawing nearer
On leather steeds they ride
They've come to take your life
On through the dead of night
With The Four Horsemen ride
Or choose your fate and die
