They seem to be rolling out the Red Carpet for scientists, while in the US most people with aspirations of doing science abandon it. Maybe it makes sense that we focus more on technology although over the long term that is a dangerous strategy as we will fall behind there as well.

The history of course, is that countries which lead in science eventually win, we saw that as many scientists left Germany and continental Europe prior to WWII, and the scientific achievements of the west allowed for a sort of victory in the cold war as well.

It certainly looks as if the US plus all closely allied countries (NATO, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Australia, etc) far exceeds the scientific contributions of China, and will for some time, according to that article. It certainly is a bad trend I would think though.

This is doom and gloom mentality.
Despite our huge problems, we remain the tech leaders of the world. China follows copies, sometimes steals our technologies.
Why do they come here to study. What do they do after they study?
