Are DOE "For Profit" Contractors afforded the same power and influence that FDR warned us about regarding "Public Sector Unions"?
Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

The "for-profit" LANS and LLNS LLCs are essentially "sole source" contractors hired by the government for periods of time measured in decades. This creates a unique business advantage not available in the fluid free market public sector.
LANS and LLNS are in a position to redefine government expectations of mission objectives as needed.
LANS and LLNS are not burdened with swift repercussions for poor decisions or failures that would create market share loss or bankruptcy for most companies.
LANS and LLNS assigned mission objectives and performance reviews frequently clash with their own "for-profit" self interest.
Lab employees ensnared by LANS and LLNS are at an acute disadvantage outside of normal free market forces and protections, since retention issues are easily addressed by new hires while contract award fees flow uninterrupted. This permits LANS and LLNS to view lab employees as low value "commodities", free of mission related award fee consequences or free market competitor concerns.
There are non-profit entities, for-profit companies, and for-profit "sole-source" companies that are decoupled from free market forces or consequences for periods measured in decades. Unfortunately, dedicated employees working at LANL and LLNL were swept up into employment with LANS and LLNS and have experienced a "perfect storm" of continual and consequence-free contractor mismanagement.
Sounds like someone is has sour grapes that they did not get become a manager. This is the way of the world now, there is no right or wrong it is about profit and if you have the skills to get in on the cash when the getting is good. Welcome to the new age!
There are many good managers at the Labs. Non-selection into some areas of LANSLLNS management can be an unintended compliment. Your "...there is no right or wrong it is about profit..." comment confirms my point. Would your comments apply to the treatment of your friend or relative? Take a moment of reflection on what you have said.
