It all comes down to this

It all comes down to this

Finally, the state and local governments are concerned about the possible loss of significant tax revenue if the new M&O contractor is a nonprofit. In the event the new contractor is not subject to the state's gross receipts tax, we ask you to work with the State of New Mexico and local jurisdictions and seriously consider other options to maintain support for the cost of local services the NNSA relies upon.

No?

New Mexico needs to the money. The lab has too much money so it should give more to New Mexico. It is the only fair and just thing to do.

The Bechtel model was to identify arrogant, modest IQ staff internal to LANL and promote them to the top leadership slots. In exchange for 4-5x their prior salary, they then became supporters of the status quo. While some may have griped about the Bechtel overlords, when it mattered they could be depended on to keep the money flowing. This model worked so well inside LANL that it then took over the county leadership as the only path forward into the next contract.

And now these "arrogant, modest IQ" managers are frantically maneuvering to run the lab after the contract change. They may well outlive Bechtel, which created them.

More bullshit from the nutcase troll. Bechtel was NOT in charge of promoting LANL staff to the "top leadership spots". That's a flat lie. Didn't happen.

So who DID approve the top LANL leaders? UC, the LANS Board, and NNSA.

I can say with direct personal experience, that Bechtel managers were brought in right after the last transition to determine "what was wrong" with LANL support services (i.e., anything not science). They held meetings where support managers were told they (the Bechtel people) were in charge and were looking to fire people, trying to find "the problems." The difficulty came when they were not able to comprehend what the support services (safety, security, ES&H, EM, Emergency Management, etc.) actually did. They were confronted with professionals with many years or decades of experience in their fields who couldn't dumb-down their functions enough for the Bechtel people to understand them. They wrote reports, and went away. No one I know was fired, and no significant changes were made.

It is Bechtel it is their MO, they work the same way just as they do in Africa and South American, they come in pay of a few natives, totally f everything up get a lot money and leave. Classic Bechtel and the keep getting away with this because they have so much pull in DC or whatever government they need to pay off or bribe.

100% correct.

And that is why UC and all LANS partners have 0% chance in the contract rebid by NNSA.

Bechtel doesn't pay the UC managers who are in charge of LANL, NNSA does. Whatever Bechtel did or didn't do in Africa has ZERO bearing on LANL. And you know that.

GIVE IT UP, we all know that you've resorted to lying to slander private corporations. What are you, just another loudmouthed, misinformed Socialist?

One rumor I heard is that Bechtel is going to put in a bid and the plan was to blame
UC for the whole mess. It sounds kind of crazy but from looking at some anti-UC posts on the blog there might be some truth to this and Bechtel is putting some pretenders on the blog to try and make themselves look good. It seems rather odd just how much
push on the "UC owns" on the blog lately.

Never worked for Bechtel, and don't intend to attempt to defend all their history, however, do point out that they have a very small presence at LLNL and am not really aware of any outrageous actions on their part at the Lab.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
