VSIP?

So, yet another “Directors All Hands”. Will this be the one where she announces the VSIP?

Why would the offer a VSIP? It makes no sense.

Cut the deadwood.....of which there is much!

A VSIP only cuts out the deadwood that want to take the money and run. Sometimes you lose good workers as well.

A Layoff cuts out the folks that management thinks is deadwood. And again, sometime you lose good workers as well.

As a recipient of the 2013 buyout, sometimes it works out quite well if the timing is right.

After all that couldn’t even watch it. Sowhat did I miss? Any pearls from our leader?

Same as the 2006 retirement incentives from UC.

Times have changed. No VSIP necessary. Budgets are good this time around!

I thought LANL needs to hire 7500 people by 2024 for pit production. So money is just pouring in and there is no way to spend it. They hire anybody and everyone. So no VSIP.

The subject post was " So, yet another “Directors All Hands”. Will this be the one where she announces the VSIP?" Notice the pronoun SHE? That would indicated Kim Budil at LLNL, not Tom Mason at LANL.

Of course in this day and age of pronoun usage, how can one be truly sure.

In any event,4/01/2022 12:57 PM's observation that LANL is in the hiring mode might not apply to Livermore.

Is a VSIP actually be offered to Livermore folks, or is it wishful thinking for those looking for the escape hatch lined with gold?

LLNL is wasting so much money on the support organisations. These swelled up since the privatization
They created a CIO organization and disguised it as a program.
In the business world, the CIO is crucial to the success of the entire company. At LLNL. a CIO is meaningless. It is the programs that matter.

As to the 4/5/2022 2:49 post complaining about the CIO. I assume that CIO is Chief Information Officer. Way back in the stone age all the things computer related ran through the Chemistry and Computations Department headed by Sid Fernbach. As technology progressed and computers became more accessible to all parts of the lab, a lot of different fiefdoms sprung up. You want a cat herder to try to keep from duplicating efforts. With the change of the contract and the NNSA flexing its bureaucratic muscle you need to answer up to all sorts of questions. That seems like a job for a CIO. I am sure the director of the lab would have loved to have a CIO to answer questions when the porn site was found at LLNL in the 1990's. If nothing else, you want a fall guy.

Now back to the original question of the thread: IS THERE A VSIP BEING OFFERED TO LLNL?

Nope! .....and speaking as “deadwood” I’m so disappointed.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

Why Workplace Jargon Is A Big Problem

From the Huffington Post Why Workplace Jargon Is A Big Problem http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/25/work-words_n_5159868.html?utm_hp_ref=business&ir=Business When we replace a specific task with a vague expression, we grant the task more magnitude than it deserves. If we don't describe an activity plainly, it seems less like an easily achievable goal and more like a cloudy state of existence that fills unknowable amounts of time. A fog of fast and empty language has seeped into the workplace. I say it's time we air it out, making room for simple, concrete words, and, therefore, more deliberate actions. By striking the following 26 words from your speech, I think you'll find that you're not quite as overwhelmed as you thought you were. Count the number that LLNLs mangers use.  touch base circle back bandwidth - impactful - utilize - table the discussion deep dive - engagement - viral value-add - one-sheet deliverable - work product - incentivise - take it to the ...
