If that happened to a LANL or LLNL person they would lose their clearance on the spot.
I’m presuming that person has a will lose their clearance. Very sad story. Obviously the stealing is some sort of compulsive behavior that needs treatment. I feel sympathy that this person has lost their promising career over this.

I have to disagree with you on this, I say the person keep the job and even moves up.

Not necessarily, given the potential for political blow back. We had a manager not lose his clearance and was not fired for threatening subordinates to conceal his active extra marital affair (Adjudicative Guideline D: Sexual Behavior) and nothing happened to him because of his North America Indigenous Peoples status.
"and nothing happened to him"
In terms of disciplinary actions true, but if it is who I think he is, he later moved up the management ranks about as far as he could go with no issue.

Ok you are correct, I should have said a non manager or run of the mill worker. Different rules for different people.
For Sam Brinton, too much in the public domain to effectively do damage control.
