From the Huffington Post Why Workplace Jargon Is A Big Problem http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/25/work-words_n_5159868.html?utm_hp_ref=business&ir=Business When we replace a specific task with a vague expression, we grant the task more magnitude than it deserves. If we don't describe an activity plainly, it seems less like an easily achievable goal and more like a cloudy state of existence that fills unknowable amounts of time. A fog of fast and empty language has seeped into the workplace. I say it's time we air it out, making room for simple, concrete words, and, therefore, more deliberate actions. NIF may be the only way to save the world with green energy. Once we get NIF fully going and a bunch of followup NIF like power plants we can stop using fossil fuels and give the chance for the earth too heal. Yes into the streets.
I recommend three books for Scott Pelley and the 60-Minutes editorial team, the last one is about NIF specifically:
"The Fairy Tale of Nuclear Fusion" by Reinders (Springer),
"A Piece of the Sun" by Clery (Ducksworth Overlook),
"Sun in a Bottle" by Charles Seife (Penguin Group).
"Fusion Follies: Carbon-Free Energy and Seawater Sorcery" by Miklosy (Amazon).
Please tell me more about their tears of joy

3:47 We study fusion ignition to keep to keep our nuclear deterrent safe, secure, effective and reliable and do so without the need to do further underground nuclear weapons testing.
32:20 The targets that we are using today are designed for science…These targets are not designed for fusion energy.
47:20 The question raised is how much of this work is supporting Stockpile Stewardship and what information gained from the experiment is supporting that stewardship. The answer given most decidedly points to the design of NIF as a tool to gain knowledge for weapon design.
(Mostly) everyone in the scientific community understands these things The press does not (or doesn't want to).
