A year of progress
Researchers at the National Ignition Facility are consistently creating reactions that make more energy than they consume.
It's necessary PR to get the politicians to sign off on a big physics experiment to produce a lot of neutrons in lieu of a nuclear test. You tell them unlimited clean energy, tell them it will be green, tell them it will be cheap and you sell them a NIF. Tell them it is science to replace the bombs in the desert, it will be a hard sell.
You tell them what they want to hear, the truth - no so much.

False. NIF consumes 100x more energy than is produced by fusion.
