Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it. Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!

At some point you guys need to stop believing all the the hype. You would figure after 8 years of media insanity that anyone while a IQ above 90 would figure out that the all this stuff is just hysteria, we have been running this experiment long enough to figure this out.
I guess the idea is that if Trump wins again, it will be hell on earth, the end of the world as we know it, we will have wars, inflation, crime, suppression of free speech, homelessness, economic downturns, Covid will kill more people and targeting of a large percentage of the US populations as enemies. So I am now afraid and I do not want any of those things to happen, news reporting like this keeps me informed.
Also if they somehow get rid of the thousands of Feds in Washington I have no doubt LLNL will grind to halt. Any of these outcomes is too scary to consider.
In that respect, it will be just like people.
What accelerant was used to put PBS' hair on fire?

Sure these look like "legit stories". It is all just made of fear mongering, do you guys ever learn? Maybe AI will take over at least at can figure out a pattern after the 4 or 5 times. These stories are all the same, taken out of context, ideas that actually were proposed by democrats, stuff he never actually said, or utter misinterpretations. It has been the same pattern time and time again.
Remember, "drink bleach" "good people on both sides", "storm the capita", " I am the new emperor god", "Trump works for Putin", "Trump is a racist", "Trump wants to start endless wars" "nuke a hurricane" and so on.
Just so you know, I have no issue with people not wanting Trump for president, but give at real reason and do not repeat a nonsense talking point from the web that you cannot confirm, have no idea what it says, or just state the headline without reading the actuall article. At least AI can do some analysis. Read, think and analyze, try it. This of course goes both ways with any media source. You guys go on about "Fox news is fake news", but the exact same thing can be said about the media you post about, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, and NYT. They are trying to sell you a narrative that you want to hear. Objective news does not sell, there seems to be no market for it. People like you want a certain view point and there is a new media source to sell you exactly what you want. Fair enough but do not post this junk and say..."credible sources say". No they do not say.
Make no mistake we will be paying for Trumps first term for the next 20 years. If he gets in again it is game over for the US.

So if Trump is elected we will have mass concentration camps. The 12/03/2023 8:03 PM poster is well educated. I had no idea that concentration camps ever exited before Hitler. I had no idea that England was ever in South Africa. But the point is that if Trump goes into power this is the plan, he even says concentration camp like Germany. Of course he probably said Boring war. This is is some deep stuff, we need more links, because if we posts links about history and mention Trump by the rules modern logic they are correlated.
The only problem is that Smithsonian mag article is of course not even historically accurate. Concentration camps go back way further than Boer war, not to mention the camps in Germany were work/death camps. You know there is a difference between, work/slave camps, open air prison, and death camp and they get lumped together when politically necessary when in fact there are clear differences. The camps or housing units, as proposed even by democrats for the homeless do not even qualify as any of these since no one is forced in them. A detention center is just a prison. So under Biden a million Americans are in concentration camps according to these rules.

I agree with you by the way, that many of Trump's statements are "nonsense talking points" for example, having Mexico pay for the wall, or when he said Ted Cruz's father was involved in the Kennedy assassination, and so on.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-gop-campaign-arm-slams-democrats-new-ai-generated-ad-turning-national-parks-migrant-tent-cities
So did Obama, this as not a Trump policy but a standard policy to protect children from trafficking and goes way back long before Trump. The media of course knew this yet it turned into "Trump" separating children because he is evil. The tent cities also go back 20 years for more. These are not concentration camps.
"I agree with you by the way, that many of Trump's statements are "nonsense talking points" for example, having Mexico pay for the wall, "
This is a legit point, Trump failed to achieve many of his stated goals. I have no issue having a problem with Trump
for his actual failures at or making claims about others that are nonsense. This cuts both ways, Obama did not usher in a socialists regime but at the same time did not dismantle the surveillance state put in by Bush. He fell well short of hope and change. All legit regions to have problem with him. He however was not a socialist.
With Trump I have an issue with the junk like "concentration camps", separating kids, seeding secrets to Russia, sending secrets to Israel, having nuclear codes in his bathroom, good people on both sides, bleach, coup attempts, Biden made the vaccine, getting billions from Saudi Arabia, nuking hurricanes, space lasers and so on.
There is actually a history of right-wing conspiracy theories, for example accusing Bill Clinton of creating "UN camps" with "black helicopters". Also accusing Obama of creating "FEMA camps" and so on to lock up patriots.
I would assume these vast camp systems do not exist, as there is no real evidence of that, and if they were real the government would be using them by now to house migrants rather than building new facilities and supposedly pitching tents.
The history of this even goes back to the 1950's, the so-called "Siberian Gulag" conspiracy theory, where there was fear that constructing a mental hospital in Alaska would be used to lock up conservatives:
https://morningside.uoregon.edu/chapter-4/
By the way, you're right I think, that for some people living in a free tent city might be fine. Imagine not paying rent, and you could have starlink and a laptop powered by solar panels -- it would have a low carbon footprint, too.
The downside historically is that once people are placed into camps they tend to be ignored, not receiving health care and food, and being subject to prosecution. In the American civil war many POW's died in internment camps on both the Confederate and Union sides:
https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/civil-war-prison-camps
The homeless tents cities voluntary no one is "placed" in them. The detainment centers are for a fixed time to determine if you are refugee or not no a prisoner of war camp.
Comparing Civil war prison or war camps like Andersonville to a modern migrant center makes no sense at all. The whole Trump is
locking people in concentration camps is just silly nonsense. Drop it. As Clinton says this dog won't hunt.
Maybe the world will be better if AI takes over, I suspect it will be more rational.
Of course, mental health treatment can cost more than that, and some people blame Reagan for the mental health crisis, and for homelessness, there were cuts to save money.
It could be, that Trump's plan would not be possible given the state of the Federal governments finances, so it could indeed be a "nonsense talking point" as you suggested.
He's also delusional to think that he can "destroy the deep state" at the same time as expanding the government, building the military, and lowering taxes. Did you know he's promised to build new cities on Federal land with flying cars, too? That is, while many of the construction workers in the US are the same immigrants he plans to deport -- something he's probably well aware of since he hires them on his own construction projects!
And of course, this might cause inflation, due to the trade war the Chinese aren't buying treasury bonds, as they don't have money to do so.
I am always suspicious of these numbers. How on earth is calculated? On the face of it a dentition center should not 775$ a night but more like 50-100$. So is this just some media thing to make it sound crazy or is the overtime for the guards, a kickback for the properties, and so on. In other words it is big money scam.
You know a better option would be just to not let the people in. I am all for legal migration and and refugees but that vast majority of these people are where for economics opportunities. Why not enforce the laws that we have or have rational guest worker program. The whole thing is just nuts.
Love the scene where Major Kong rides the H-Bomb to its explosion.
No he did not say this, this is once again a point taken out of context. Please look this up and read the actual stories.
"He's also delusional to think that he can "destroy the deep state" at the same time as expanding the government, building the military, and lowering taxes."
How is he expanding the government? Getting rid of the deep state and lowering taxes can work. Expanding the military would work provided you stop making every 10th recruit a general. Perhaps he is delusional but we have a bloated government workforce that adds little, does little and will fight to the death to keep their jobs. Somone said it is like 800 bucks a day to house single migrant, only a deep state government organization could do that.
We have millions of people in the so called deep state. They are dangerous because they are desperate to keep jobs that pay way more than the could ever get otherwise.
I agree it certainly could be good to cut costs, but the result could be that things become dysfunctional (at minimal cost savings) and then subsequently become even more expensive once they are fixed.
Perhaps I would trust this plan more if it was carried out by some other Republican, for example Nikki Haley, rather than Trump.
I found a video where Trump did propose awarding blocks of Federal land to developers (perhaps through auction or a contest) to build new cities. It does indeed mention flying cars as well, cheaper houses, and more tax incentives for families with children, as well as a revitalization of manufacturing (which is already happening under Biden). You are correct, I think, that he is hoping to incentivize the private sector somehow while shrinking government overall.
There are of course companies, some in the Bay Area working on various sorts of new concepts for "flying cars", for example this company:
https://www.jobyaviation.com/
Of course Boeing has this as well:
https://www.boeing.com/features/frontiers/2019/autonomous-flying-vehicles/index.page
You see every time you look what actually was said it is completely different what the news reported. This occurs time and time again. AI could figure out the pattern that what the news media reports is not accurate. There is also the constant media reports of "trusted sources say that Trump said this, did this and so on" and of course it is all nonense in the end. The media is not there to inform you. It is there to say what you want to hear or entertain you.
It's nice that he's promising cheaper houses, but zoning is more controlled at the state and local level, and of course, Trump's tax plan in his actual presidency made homeownership less desirable, by making it harder to deduct mortgage interest and state and local taxes. This was because there was a large standard deduction to discourage someone to itemize, combined with a limit on state and local tax deductions.
Certainly also as I pointed out, many immigrants are employed in construction trades, and his policies could prevent that, raising the cost of housing. Those are skilled laborers in many cases and may be not that easily replaced.
Trump said he was going to build cities out of nothing with flying cars. That sounds crazy and shows Trump is crazy. At least that is what my friends say on facebook. I trust them.
