 Well, Trump just declared "an idea" as a terrorists threat!

Never mind that simply calling someone today “anti fascist” doesn’t make them automatically a good person…

Never mind that if the KKK suddenly called themselves the “totally not racist club” that wouldn’t mean they’re totally not racist…

Never mind that the average WWII soldier’s beliefs were probably much closer to those of the conservative commenter who was just murdered and labeled an extremist bigot by the Left than anyone actually on the Left today…

Comparing rich kids who wear masks, block traffic, and shout the latest Leftist slogan at people just trying to get to work to WWII soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-day is EXTREMELY PATHETIC AND EMBARRASSING.

I just have real pessimism that we can bridge the divide. I know tons of families that have kids or family members who will no longer interact with the rest of the family since they feel the rest of the family is "fascists" and "racists" or "evil". What is so stunning is in every single instance it is always one side that will not debate, will not discuss, will not reason, but just throw out slogans, tantrums and insults. It always the same they simply claim you are a brainwashed MAGA who just listens to Fox news propoganda. Yet if you ask them to explain why exactly they believe that or can they back up their claims, they always disengage. No debate, no discussion. Every time. I am always willing change my mind and compromise and listen. I one side has their mind made up and will not change and just considers one side to be evil I am not sure how you can make progress. One side thinks the left is irrational and crazy and the side thinks the right is evil. I do not see how you bridge that gap.

About cutting friends and family off. It in fact appears to be something very liberal people do, followed by liberal people. Moderates are the lest likely. I suspect that the libertarians would be the absolute lowest. I consider my self to be libertarian, of course I am moderate one because I think we do need things like roads, fire departments and so on, but in my heart I am really libertarian to the core but I admit it has some practical issues. I have friends from all walks of life and affiliations and I find it repugnant that I would cut someone off because of their religion, politics, stances and so on. One advantage I have as libertarian is that I can always find some common ground with with people on some topic so I stick with that approach. I have noticed that you have to be careful around "liberals" about what you say. Oddly enough they are very similar to deeply fundamental religious people. Here is link to a study showing this. Another thing I often see with young people especially liberals is how they see older people as both evil and stupid. I have encountered that many times and this is one of the reasons grandparents and parents are often cut off. In the study below they find "boomers" are the most
tolerant of people. The trend is clear liberal and very liberal people are far more likely to cutt off friends and family than conservatives. Another fun fact is if you look at Fig.3 very conservative ticks up again, which matches with my experience that very liberal and very conservative people actually have a very similar worldview.

How do you think this ends?

For any student of history, just rearrange these statements and replace "insanity" with Jew, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, Communist, Nazi, Atheist, Monarchist, Tutsi, Armenian, Bengalis, Black, White, and Bolsheviks.

You can argue forever on who is on the wrong side of history, but a safe rule
are the side that " does not negotiate" are generally on the wrong side.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
