I have tried this on my own and it is quite good for coding and automated work -- gave it an old computational physics paper and it seems able to reproduce the results with minimal guidance, generating necessary code and figures as it goes, and carrying out convergence studies.
One advantage of using an open source model in a workflow might be that the model in question is a frozen set of parameters (available for perpetuity) so that results are more or less reproducible, so that as a tool it has predictable behavior.
