SNL layoffs

 1-3% staff reduction at SNL

Just got the word that Sandia is required to reduce the workforce by 1-3% by fall. They are hoping to get a voluntary separation package approved by NNSA and get the numbers down that way. They also mentioned that SNL was in much better shape than "other labs". Any news at LANL?

Current open postings SNL 34, LANL 299. Last year this time it was around SNL 100 and LANL 500. LLNL just changed their EBA policy so there is that.

No news at LANL yet. But I can tell you things are not looking good. Seems like the number is closer to 10%.

“LLNL just changed their EBA policy so there is that.”

Probably not coincidental unfortunately.

Effective January 1, 2013, LLNS changed its EBA policy to include “career indefinite” employees that become EBAs, that can’t acquire a programmatically funded assignment within a “reasonable” period time, will be subject to an “individual RIF”.

How has the LLNS EBA policy recently?

Meanwhile further up this blog on June 28 “ There is talk that the budget for LANL could increase with pit production”

Different budgets. If you are in the market to cast Pu, drive a noisy diesel F-350 from ABQ everyday, with a pair of truck nuts on the back, to work on TA-55 plumbing or if you are radiation safety tech, LANL has lots of jobs available. For PhD scientists, it's not looking so good. Thom can't move every PhD into a role checking boxes and driving a fork lift.
