Evaluating The RIF Poll

Post anon,

I was with the understanding that a TCP'er< 50 and who will not turn 50 within 120 days and therefore can not retire under UCRP rules is also not entitled to any medical coverage for life. TCP-1'er also can not draw unemployment.

Question Id#3741 published on 9/10/2007 10:08:22 AM

Q: Will LLNS offer an option to go "inactive" with respect to retirement? Will there be a COLA available annually to those who are inactive as well as a COLA adjustment for retirees?

A: This answer is based on the limited information in the question. Assuming this is referring to a participant of TCP1 working for LLNS, terminating employment from LLNS, but not commencing retirement (pension and retiree health & welfare benefits) until some later date. In this example the individual must commence retirement within 120 days from termination from LLNS to be eligible for the subsidized retiree H&W benefits. If the individual failed to commence retirement within 120 days from termination from LLNS, he/she would lose the subsidy towards retiree H&W benefits. After your retirement begins, you will be eligible to receive an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) paid each July 1.

If you are under 50 when you get canned and do not turn 50 within that 120 day period and then RETIRE you will forfit medical for life...end of subject matter.

Many of you that were layed off in the last two day may want to read a section on the sidebar entitled " Before The Transition Q & A". You can search this document by key words and find many answers that may pertain to you.

Very disgusting! TCP-1er's < 50 lost medical retirement because they are too young to retire from the U.C. system. See poll results for those who were laid off (> 40%)Looks like this group was targeted. All LLNS wanted to do was save money....there was never a human being behind the number (in their minds). I hope they sleep at night.

here is a bit of information for those who where let go; if you are over 50 and chose to retire and are collecting unemployement, your unemployement benifts will be reduce and if you manage to get another job and it has medical coverage do not let llns find out they will drop you off their medical.

Good information:

Anyone who froze their UCRP and took TCP 2, regardless of age, can eventually retire under UCRP once they reach age 50 or greater and they can keep their medical/dental coverages in retirement IF they are still working for LLNS at the time of retiring under UCRP Or if they took TCP 1 and are working for LLNS at the time of retiring under LLNS.

Once their employment is terminated from LLNS then they must retire from either LLNS or UCRP within 120 days of termination or they will forever forfeit their medical/dental coverages in retirement.

So, if you are well under age 50 and have just been laid off, you have lost your medical/dental coverages in your future retirement.

There is only one way to correct this. EVENTUALLY FIND A JOB - ANY JOB - AT A UC FACILITY. When you do that, your years of service in UCRP start growing again and eventually when you quit that job and retire from UCRP you will have the medical/dental coverages offered by UC at that location you retired from for your retirement years.

There is no timeframe in which you need to get rehired by UC. It can happen real soon or several years from now. If you've already retired from UCRP and then eventually get a job at a UC location, you can suspend your UC retirement and chose to retire under UC at a later time. UC will recalculate your retirement and give you your medical/dental coverages if you are eligible - which means you need at least 10 years of UC pension years on the books.

Anyone can draw unemployment if they are terminated involuntarily. Choosing TCP 1 or 2 does not decide whether or not you can draw unemployment. The unemployment rules are decided by the State of California, not LLNS or DOE. You are eligible if you have lost your job due to no fault of your own.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
