Summation of the Situation- SOS

"The lambs have spoken".

This has nothing to do with laying down. People should take care of their families, themselves and friends first. Only after they feel they have taken care of those things, then think about what you can do to help illuminate what's happening at LLNL. The pen is probably better than a march on company time.

As for me, I think Its time to move on, after all its really become ONLY a job and I don't see a clear plan for things improving in the near future.

On top of that, most of the leadership at the division levels on up is so far removed from science and ignorant of the programs they manage, they only know how manage people out the gate.

1.) People should take care of their families, themselves and friends first. ( agreed with 100% )

2.) Only after they feel they have taken care of those things, then think about what you can do to help illuminate what's happening at LLNL.

IMHO I'd say once you have taken care of (#1) then who really cares about (#2) I know for sure that once I'm canned I'm not going to give a rats butt about what happens to LLNL, it's budget, the science, their future or even if they close the doors and I most definitely do not give a hoot about what happens to ULM or the LLNS. Who knows I may join up with LLNL adversaries to assure it closes its door for good as soon as possible. My final wish would be to put everyone in ULM in the streets with no pension or medical coverage. I will however settle for their imprisonment. Thanks NNSA, you've created a monster and I'm sure there are many more transformations of attitudes to come.

I remember when Security was not happy with what was going on in there Department. they did the unthinkable. They organized and became the first bargaining Union on the Lab. They didn't sit back and just let things continue as they were. Weather you are for unions or not collectively they took on the mighty UC and all there Lawyers and won. Some times you have to be willing to do what ever it takes to make your self's heard and a hundred voices are louder then
one.

How this went from a great summation of the situation to a rally for the cause I don't know but you need unity, the press and air time to get ULM's attention. I doubt you'll get any of the above but give it a go if you wish.

You'll need to get the word out via a mass mailer to all LLNL employees or very few are going to show up. I suggest you get SPSE's help right quick. I've never been successful in obtaining their help at all but maybe you'll have better luck with your rally. I wish all of you the best of luck.

Before you rally I suggest you read the root entry under this topic. You need to take care of yourself first. The orders to shut this place down have come from the President of the United States, down to NNSA who has employed LLNS to close the doors, and they are doing just that. No one is going to overturn these orders no matter what you do. Heck, look how many people are against the war in Iraq and have loaded up the presidents mail box with letters. What's happening? Nothing. It's
" hold your course and stead as she goes" while the clowns in DC racks up a bill we're all going to pay for with our lives for decades to come. Do you really think anyone cares about LLNL? Heck you got all the anti-nuke dogooders voting for its demise too. Forget the rally LLNL employees. Just continue working day to day until you're number is pulled. In the meantime start looking for a job elsewhere. Prepare yourself for the inevitable and you'll be far ahead of the curve. LLNL is finished and will never be as it was. Just give it up and take care of yourself. It's OVER, OVER, OVER !!! In 7-10 years you won't recognize the place, the people or the little bit of work that'll be going on. It's just ( fill in the blank) OVER.

I would like to know where was the union when we were asked TCP1 or 2? I recall debating this issue and then I stumbled on the LANL website. That helped me to decide to not trust the spin coming out of LLNS, and I'm still happy about my TCP2 choice. Yes, I know TCP1 is fully funded, but where will it be in 20 years?

I am for the union, I just don't see it making a difference over the next two years, which is when we ned the most help making it through the transition. Once again, you need to share any and all information and take care yourself.

They could have spoken up but they did NOTHING but let the blackwidow spin her web. She trapped 51% and poisoned all of them with a smile on her face. Again I will refer you to an entry made on the LLNL and LANL blog during this time. It's entitled A Legacy Destroyed. You may want to read it and examine what has happened since the day LLNS took over. They will never be forgotten.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
