Has any heard that directly after the 535 FTE's are sent down the road there's going to be between 180-200 contracts and term employee to follow before Dec 31st? I have heard this many times and I can't find anything in writing. Then I hear after the 535 are out the gate we are still $300M in debt. Does this ever end or are we looking at more of the same next year?

Nothing in writing but you can be certain that the 535 people are not the last ones. I heard there is a parallel unofficial RIF being done in addition to the 3161 RIF. The unofficial RIF can be done anytime and target any job class as long as it targets 50 or less people at a time. They can do that a few times this year. What a way to raise morale eh?

I've heard 200 also. I'm not sure if it's true, but there is a flex term in my building who's term ends June 1st, she's already been told it won't be renewed! Check my posting in 'From the LANL Blog' to read my take on the fate of the FTE's that don't fall on the 22nd & 23rd!

FR said in his little talk about the ISP that after the oppertunity to let 535 career employees go, and he knows how hard it is and GM hates it, that 200 term would be going. He said the WARN letter was being done as we speak. I saw in the LLNS propaganda that the decision on the terms has been delayed. I'm sure they all hate letting people go, and are losing sleep about it - especially when they tell their children.

There was a lot of interest in the seniority list put out be SPSE-UPTE. The SPSE-UPTE office received over 100 requests for the list and many associated requests. Further, possibly as a result of the series, Directorates are beginning to share a little more information on the business units. Engineering, for instance, has been divided into two business units, personnel who support NIF and were granted a blanket exemption from the ISP, and those who support other programs. Thus Seniority will likely be the deciding factor for selection to the layoff list for eligible non-200 series Engineering employees who support programs other than NIF.

A lot of people with WARN notices were told that they weren't going to be layed off. So, if you got a WARN notice, and you were not told you were not on a list..then I would suggest you start packing on Monday.

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
