As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it. Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!

No one is going to be fired. TRIAD even knows that, if you want an exemption you will get one. We have gone over this before. If they fire people that do not get the vaccine they are going to be hit with a huge racial discrimination lawsuit. All you have to do is look at the demographics of who is or is not getting the vaccine. The Governor, Ben Lujan is not going to be very happy if they try this.
My prediction is that by the time deadline comes about in Oct they will simply say we got enough of the workforce vaccinated that we think we are good and not a single person is going to terminated over their vaccine status.

Pretty fair crowd number. Look I say get the vaccine, especially if you are in vulnerable group. The problem is the death numbers are low enough that many people are simply thinking that since they are healthy they do not need the vaccine. I am never big into mandates and say let people do what they want.
The problem is on the LANL daily post facebook page keeps getting comments from LANL scientists , and once again my observation is that it is always the how should I say this, not exactly the best and brightest that LANL has to offer, to say the least. Any decent scientist can think for themselves enough to know that this pandemic and most other pandemics have all sorts of complexities, subtitles cost benefit analysis and so on. But on the LANL daily post facebook you just end up with "I am scientist and I can insult people". I always have to cringe when I seen these people post to enlighten the public. These people are not doing anyone any kind of service and not giving LANL the best look.

These crazy antivaxers are nuts, we need to vax up, mask up, lockdown and social distance. The report shows that someone at LANL has died. It happens that the person was in their 90s but ya, Covid is the greatest health risk we have seen in ages.
A couple of things that should be implemented.
(1) If you did not get the vaccine, you should not get an ICU bed. Doctors should have the option not to treat you.
(2) No vaccine, you should not be able to use any kind government funded transport like buses or trains. You are a menace you should be treated as such.
(3) You should not receive US mail.
(4) No business who fires you should be in any kind of legal trouble.
(5) Your children should be taken away until you get the vaccine or the pandemic is over.
(6) Any back, online store, or business should have the right not to serve you or have you as a customer.
(7) The longe you are unvaccinated there is hold be some kind long term cost, perhaps a a tab on your social medial or a record that
can used to evaluate you for loans.
(8) Facebook, twitter, phone companies, or any other social media should have the right to throw you off.
There will be exceptions to this.
(1) Religious or health.
(2) Any marglinzed minority group, that due to past injustices face structural issues that have slowed the vaccine process or created distrusts with the government.

Biden is bringing down the hammer to smash the unvaccinated resistance. Guess what all Federal workers get this or get fired, never

Bidden is announcing mandates for Federal workers. I think it is all for show. They say they need a 75 day ramp up, and that you "could be terminated". I have said this many times before if you look at the demographic makeup of the people getting vaccines and not getting vaccines you will say very rapidly why firing lots of people is gong to be a big problem. The other that makes me think this is pretty empty is that if you look at who works for the government it leans heavily democratic. So you are essentially targeting mostly democrats who have not gotten the vaccine which are mostly minorities. Minorities by the way have been hit the hardest by Covid so this could have some effectiveness in actually saving lives. So unless the Biden is going to be happy firing a large number of democrat voting minorities I doubt it will actually go through with.
The point is that on this blog and MSM this will be seen as a victory again ts all those crazy right winger nuts. The problem is that not that many that work for the Federal government and those that do probably have the vaccine. In fact that target of this this is essentially the opposite to those people. Again you need to look at these things though an actual mathematical and statistical lens not a political narrative lens. The MSM does not like math, they will never use numbers, whether be because it simply turns the audience off or they have some agenda. But I will presume that since this is a LLNL Blog that some of you have some concept of math. Use it, use your head and use your critical thinking skills.
The labs are not going to fire anybody.
Who does not get that point? My point was the a vaccine mandate at the labs will do little at this point because (1) 85% of people got vaccinated already and another 5-7% may have got Covid already, (2) The last 15% of the unvaccinated are probably low risk just due to the age distribution. (3) For political reasons you will not be able to fire the last 15% anyway because of discrimination laws. (4) At this point the risk is low that it is simply not worth it.
I agree the lives are still being lost in the US, but you need to look at the demographics of the group and who exactly needs to get vaccinated at this point. The numbers are all out there, these vaccine mandates for places that already have such high vaccination rates will do little for these groups.

At 85% vaxxed and the age distribution of the lab employees the risk is fairly low. With that I think most people should get vaxed but your statement are over the top when you actually look at the numbers.

Odd, I would expect many somebody who work at the lab to actually know some statistics, probability and math and to understand that with the current rate of vaccination, the current Delta variation, and how many high risk people we have onsite how low the risk actually is. I suspect that so many of the comments from people like you have nothing to do with vaccination it is just some way for you to feel superior to the "other", which again is odd because you have no idea who the "other" actually is at the labs.

Now they are clarifying the story that they will USPS will have the mandate, but from reading it it sounds like they do not have the same mandate that other agencies have.
I think the USPS still has option testing weekly so they do not have the hard mandate that other federal workers have.
Postal workers will have a choice between getting the vaccine and getting tested for COVID-19 once a week, a Biden administration official clarified, subjecting those workers to the rules being imposed on business of 100 employees or more, as opposed to the rules for federal employees.
“USPS is not included in the executive order requiring vaccination of Federal employees. USPS has a separate statutory scheme and is traditionally independent of federal personnel actions like this,” a Biden administration official said.

We can roll all of that into an infrastructure bill, but I imagine exceptions would be in order. Those nice people at the Golden Gate Park don't need to be vaccinated (even though they are federal employees) because Nancy likes the place enough for a $200 million slab of pork to be gifted.
I wasn't thrilled with getting the shot but co-morbidity factors pushed me into that decision after consulting with my doctor. I have had serious side effects, it has not been a pleasant run. But it was a voluntary decision.
So glad I am retired from LLNL, but now if I don't get a booster shot, will Biden come after my retirement package?
I agree 100%. I think you also have a point on retirement. If do not get the vaccine you should forfeit a portion of your social security and medicare. We need to start making this hurt and it needs to be for life if we are serious. These people are a public health threat and a danger. If you had plague rats running our cities we would get rid of them. Are we in that difference of a situation now? It is time to bring down the hammer and break them. How about this, no vax, you don't get to vote, drive on our streets, go to our supermarkets. The mandates at the labs are the right thing to do because it will get rid of Covid.

Here at LANL we have been brought an incapable management team by Triad, with a propaganda mill that pats themselves on the back for meaningless achievements while the Laboratory’s scientific and technical core grows ever weaker. At least we will have parking garages as a monument to the brief Triad era.

This is not happening in Idaho. I think it was only a few limited smaller hospitals have had some issues. The MSM is not giving you the proper context this as usual. Why do you just simply go with what you are told on Huff post or MSNBC when takes like 4 min to check this?

Again if you look into this it is only in a small number of hospitals, it is not state wide.All the information is out there.
