Treaty suspended

 https://www.huffpost.com/entry/russia-ukraine-war-vladimir-putin-speech_n_63f48a5ce4b0c87f32f319d7

Putin also said that Russia would suspend its participation in a treaty aimed at keeping a lid on nuclear weapons expansion. The so-called New START Treaty was signed by Russia and the U.S. in 2010. It caps the number of long-range nuclear warheads they can deploy and limits the use of missiles that can carry atomic weapons.

On the up side maybe everyone start testing again! woo hoo!!!

I think we have no choice now but a total defeat of Russia.

It has been 31 years since we last did testing. Is there any expertise left from that era, were the notes that were left behind good enough to bring things back to speed? Of course, any approval of testing will be delayed with the choosing of the proper pronouns of the test names.

Right. How do you defeat a nuclear weapon state?

Yea all of the notes and test equipment from that era have been thrown out the past 2-3 years... you know the new hires need something to do that they are capable of performing. Thankfully we still have some retirees that work part time that still know their stuff.

I would guess Russia might do a test first to show they are serious. Of course the could go wrong if they do not work. My guess if they test it will be a couple of weapons.

"Right. How do you defeat a nuclear weapon state?"

By arming the Ukrainians and letting them fight.

In any case the madman Trump is now accelerating ww3.

News Flash: Trump is out of office. He only affects people who listen to him. People who openly fear him encourage people who listen to him, so stop it.

You seem not to understand cause and effect. It like saying to a German in 1948, that Hitler is totally irrelevant to Germany now. The idea is that four years of Trump will have lasting damage on the US for 4, 10 or even 20 years from now. He brought us to war, destroyed the economy, brought about fascists movements. For example under Trumps watch we lost over 1 million people with several million more that now have long term Covid. This will mean we are short of millions of workers. He destroyed the economy which is slowly recovering. He embolden Russia which and was friends with North Korea and China, which has set us up for possible war. Worst of all he is still around and millions or Americans in deep fear he could come back again and we also know that would be the end of the US and everything. It will take forever for the nation to heal. We are closer now to ww3 than ever before and anyone with a brain knows that Trump got us into this.

The START treaty concerns itself with delivery systems and the types/numbers of nuclear devices. The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty is the one that applies to testing of weapons. I doubt that Putin really cares about the difference.

Uh, what war did Trump "bring us to"?

It looks like China is steeping up as the rational adult in the room with a 12 point peace plan that could. work. I am glad that at least one leading nation is looking for some kind of way to deescalate this. Is this works it will show that China now has all the power. Let us hope this works.

In case you have not been paying attention Trump had top secret documents just lying around his house. It was rumored these where nuclear secrets. Do you really think that Trump just did this willy nilly or he had those as deal for the Russian collusion. Did you sleep through 2016-2020 and miss the Russian-Trump connections?

Uncomfortable Truth: Russia Won't Be Taken Seriously Until it Uses Tactical Nuk

So far Russia has allowed NATO to cross several of its red lines. As a result the West now believes that Russia really doesn't have red lines and is too risk-averse to reta1iate. Some are now even openly questioning Russia's nuc1ear capabilities and quietly insinuating continued western weapons until Ukraine can try to push for retaking Crimea.

Just as the US had to use nuk3s as part of a "shock-and-awe" campaign to get the Japanese to finally surrender at the end of World War II, Russia probably will need to use a tactical nuk3 somewhere inside of Ukraine with a threat to use more if it wants to be taken seriously and get NATO to back off. Otherwise the western supply of weapons will continue.

The western supply of weapons will increase substantially if Putin dares to use a tactical nuclear weapon. Those weapons win battles, not wars. It would precipitate strikes by Ukraine deep inside Russia, allowing them to feel the horror and terror they have needlessly visited on the Ukrainian civilians. Putin would be gone, in days or weeks, depending on who takes him out. NATQ would wake up immediately and China would abandon Putin in a second.

Give war a chance. How dare Putin invade another country and kill thousands of civilians. Any nation that does that needs to be defeated.

If that was sarcasm, it was stupid, if not, then we agree.

You seem to be unaware of two things. (1) Somthing can be sarcasm and be accurate at the same time. (2) I am glad we agree but you seem to be utterly unaware of US history.

I have to say there are legitimate reasons to get involved in Ukraine. In fact I would say our policies and agenda have been part of the reason Russia attacked. It is now our time to take advantage of the situation. When one studies politics, power and and history one must do so in a rational and detached way. Imagine you are on he plains of Africa watching lions hunt zebras, or hyenas attacking lions. You never claim that one group is evil or morally justified, it is simply phenomena. The same is true of global politics. I have no issue with saying that defeating Russia is good for us, could give us more power, more resources. It is a calculated risk. I do have a problem when I hear silly arguments that "Russia" is evil and Putin is bad because he invaded another country and we doing this because we care about the Ukrainian people. We do not care about the Ukrainian people, we do not care about Iraqis, people from Afghanistan, Vietnam and so on. We got involved for power, control, advantage, and self interests. All the latter are fine examples to get involved and why every war or intervention is actually done. Sure you can call Russia evil but you better be prepared to call the US evil as well. I say drop the idea of evil since it is a meaningless concept in geopolitics anyway.

As for your analysis, maybe but maybe not. Striking Russia deep inside could unite them and prompt a massive strike back. China could be hopping that the Russia and the west go to war, or perhaps a limited war. It is really hard to say. I like the idea of getting controll of Russia for money, resources and power, so we can get the upper hand on our next target China but it is a dangerous game we playing.

One cannot publicly say this but ask any historian, political scientists, or economists what our goal is. Better yet ask your self this why did we get in involved in Iraq or Afghanistan? Why did we give arms to support wars all over the world for the last 100 years? Why did the Russians do the same, the English and so on. Wars and proxy wars are always fought for resources, power, gaining controll or preparing for the next conflict. This is just a fact of the world. Also not to mention that if took any time to read what world leaders have actually said over the years they are pretty open as to why that want to gain controll over Russia, take it over or remove it as player in the world stage.

Saying some silly nonsense like "invading other nations is evil and we need to stop it" is pointless. Ask yourself this how many wars are currently going on the world, how come we only concerned with Ukraine, why not the wars in Africa and the middle east? It is because we simply do not see the value in doing so in terms of resources, power or security. The idea of right or wrong are never factored into this except for the propoganda. What is amazing is that so called educated people fall for simple minded propoganda.

Ok, that makes sense /s

Ok, that makes sense.

It is not sense it is just observation. Like Machiavelli I am simply have a knowledge of history and can see patterns. Others base their opinions on what they are told or what the would like to post on their facebook page. To understand or at least two have some understanding of the world you need to look at it like a scientist and that is why you think what I said make sense.

If you go back far enough in history the idea of good guys versus bad guys makes no sense. For example do we consider Romans villains? What about Alexander the Great? Maybe the Carthnegians? No doubt back than many people considered The Romans to be bad guys and Greeks to be good guys, but in scale of time we simply note what happened. In 500 years, humans will simply note that there was this Empire called America that fought other empires for controll.

Glad in makes sense for you know.

How on earth do you get Chinese troll out of the post?

I will give a hint to how geopolitics really work, this whole Ukraine as far as American is concerned is really about China. I am not against involvement in Ukraine I simply stating why are involved and helping the Ukrainian people has nothing to do with it. Invading Iraq had nothing to do with helping the Iraqi people either. Helping people has never been a motive for a war by the US or any other nation in all the history of mankind.

In any case you are right that a grammatical mistake made on cell phone totally invalidates every point.
