Marquez is representing Los Alamos National Laboratory on this fire. This is really scary not to mention a disgrace. What is MacMillan thinking?

Los Alamos, NM – Los Alamos County officials are reporting the fire is now threatening Los Alamos. They are ordering a mandatory evacuation which will begin and proceed in this order: Group 1: Western, Quemazon, Ponderosa; Group 2: North Community, Barranca Mesa, North Mesa; Group 3: East of Diamond and the remainder of the town site. White Rock is NOT being evacuated at this time. Residents in Los Alamos should NOT go to White Rock to stay in case it is later evacuated.

Does McMillan even own a home in Los Alamos or has he still been traveling back to Livermore each weekend?

Cerro Grande fire in 2000 took 7 days to hit max size. This latest blaze reached the same size as Cerro Grande in ONE day!

It raced toward the town site covering over 8 miles during only 24 hours. I have never seen a wildfire grow so large so quickly!

This doesn't look good. If we get any strong S-SW winds, the town may be lost to the fire.

In MacMillian's news conference one thing is for sure, he stopped using the Grecian Formula or Just for Men.

Are you sure that the newly sprouted gray isn't because he suddenly realized what he just stepped into?

I saw Knapp speeding home one Friday evening in his Porsche Cayenne shaking his fist at a slow old man. Mr. invincible even looked old and haggard. Poor fools never read the story of King Midas.

True to its rumor-mongering form, POGO goes to work along with Time Magazine in an attempt to smear the lab over the latest wild fire.

Lot's of inaccuracies in these POGO claims, however, the poor Time readers will never know it:

What was inaccurate? The man is entitled to his opinion. I do notice that MacMillan and Terry really do downplay the risks when interviewed. I guess I'm, getting tired of hearing that there is "nothing but gloves" in the TRUPAC shipments to WIPP. It's really insulting for those of us that work on the WDP at Area G to hear those kind of "elementary" descriptions of the work we do.

Would someone please get McMillian some dye for his hair? Knapp, someone. He's gone from looking like a young debonair Pierce Brosnan to an old gray haggard Donald Sutherland in 3-days. Not only does his hairdresser in California now for sure, but the American public. I guess it's the stress.

Anyone heard how LANS plans to pay for having the lab shut down for over a week.

Employees will likely use "report pay" for time & effort, but where will the real money come from to pay the salaries over all this time?

Pattiz is going to pay for it out his bank account. Incidentally, did anyone take notice that Pattiz was completely "absent" during the fire? I mean not even a whisper. Not surprising!

LANS CFO has decided that the costs for the Las Conchas fire will be taken out of the hide of all projects at LANL. It is to be done with a 2% increase in project overhead that will be applied all the way back to the start of the fiscal year (Oct 1st of 2010).

Unlike with the Cerro Grande fire, it looks like LANL is going to get little financial help from NNSA for this one.

Figures.
