Good luck Perry!

From the CNN Blog on Senate Appointment hearings today...

Perry says he regrets recommending getting rid of the Energy department

From CNN's Dan Merica

Perry said in his hearing that he regrets saying in the past that he wanted to get rid of the energy department.

Here's the full remarks:

"I have learned a great deal about the important work being done every day by the outstanding men and women of the Department of Energy. I have spoken several times to Secretary Moniz about the operation. I have spoke to his predecessors. And if confirmed, my desire is to lead this agency in a thoughtful manner, surrounding myself with expertise on the core functions of the department."

"My past statements made over five years ago about abolishing the Department of Energy do not reflect my current thinking. In fact, after being briefed on so many of the vital functions of the Department of Energy, I regret recommending its elimination."

Perry on nuclear testing

From CNN's Rene Marsh

Perry said it's important to have a nuclear arsenal that's "modern and safe."

The exchange with Sen. Bernie Sanders was as follows

Sanders: I'm looking for assurance department of energy will not test nukes because it’s a “dangerous idea.”

Perry: It's important to have a nuclear arsenal that’s modern and safe. I will rely on the observations of the scientist at the department of energy and in private sector on whether there is clear technical ability to use what (nuclear weapons) we have today. If we never have to test a nuke, that would be a good thing.

----------
Perry on cyber threats to grid and protecting climate scientists

From CNN's Rene Marsh

Cantwell asked: What’s your commitment to protecting scientists (who are researching climate change) at the department of energy and how much of an effort will you make to defend our nation against Russian cyber attacks?

Perry's response: “I’m going to protect all the science” whether it's having to do with climate or anything else the US is working on.

On cyber threats in the US:

Perry: “If they are trying to penetrate into Americans lives, you will see me engaged in activities at department of Energy ... I feel very comfortable we have the technology and ability to stop the cyber snooping."

Quotes from CNN, a valuable, honest news source. HaHaHaHa!

Well, a lot more honest than Faux News.

Only if you like being spoon-fed liberal propaganda in your liberal echo chamber. But they are not as bad as MSNBC.

Hey 10:17, don't you have a coyote hunt or border mission to get to? Why are you wasting time here?

I'm not 10:17, but I would ask the same question of you 8:30, why are you wasting your time here? You do realize that the adults have taken over and all your childish tantrums aren't going to get you anything, not even your binky.

you do realize that the adults have taken over

Interesting point. So much connected to the topic, which has to do with Perry; but hey,
the adults have taken over, so I can say anything I want.

Together with the guy who always uses Sheesh to make a point, you certainly strike me as an intellectual heavy weight, a real brainiac.

If this is the kind of adult talk I can expect for the next four years, we are even more in trouble than I thought before.

Anyway, what I really would like to know, is what Perry's plans are in regard to the Office of Science; for instance is he going to fight for more funds for nuclear and high energy physics?

Is he going to address the dysfunctional NNSA and the way the labs are run?

Those are the things I would like to see an adult conversation about.

Perry could not care less about nuclear and high energy physics, and he certainly cannot understand them. He only recently learned that these areas are funded by DOE, and he probably only heard about Office of Science last week. So, no, he is not going to fight for more funds for nuclear and high energy physics. More likely, he will fight to reduce them, unless he relies on people who convince him otherwise. But he will appoint those people to implement his high-level directives, so it is unlikely any of them will fight for more funds, either. Get used to a lot less funding, maybe or maybe not including for NNSA. It is still possible NNSA will benefit from Trump, but too early to say.

A clown reality TV star who thinks reading books is bad, taking to twitter every time someone penetrates his micron thick skin with the most pedestrian comment or advise is your definition of adult? Your level of delusion is quite something special.

I'm not 8:30, but I'll respond anyway. Trump is indeed a juvenile. However, his cabinet picks are adults, big nasty ones with lots of life under their belts and no tolerance for liberal garbage or political correctness. Get used to it.

You admit he's a juvenile yet somehow make a leap of faith that he can pick qualified cabinet members to lead this countries agencies. After all a goof like Perry who majored in animal science and probably still doesn't know the name of the department he's supposed to lead is what passes for an adult in your book. Like I said you're delusional and like all right wing nut bags gutless to admit you picked a clown for a president.

Um, I think I just admitted it, even though I didn't actually vote for him (nor for Hillary). Try to keep your posts free from inherent contradictions and unsupported assumptions.
