Los Alamos Lab Flying LGBTQ Flag For First Time

Los Alamos Lab Flying LGBTQ Flag For First Time

By Rebecca Moss | rmoss@sfnewmexican.com Jun 11, 2019 Updated Jun 12, 2019

At 19, Samuel Buelow felt he had to leave Los Alamos to be himself.

He had grown up as a girl in the insular, scientific community that felt deeply conservative in the late 1990s and early 2000s. After moving to Pittsburgh for college, Buelow came out as a transgender, gay man.

“It was definitely something, at the time, I felt I couldn’t have done living here full time,” Buelow said of Los Alamos. “There was very little awareness of these issues in general. And when there was, it was surrounded by some pretty intense homophobia and transphobia.”

That was then.

This … is a town sporting different colors.

On Monday, a rainbow flag was raised for the first time in front of the Otowi Building on the Los Alamos National Laboratory campus, flapping alongside the U.S. and New Mexico banners. Lab officials said it will fly for the remainder of the week.

It was another sign of change at the lab, which in previous years has undertaken different pride representations, including decorating the windows of a prominent building with rainbow-colored Post-it Notes in 2017.

CJ Bacino, the laboratory’s diversity officer, said a Los Alamos lab LGBTQ staff and allies group called Prism brought forward the idea of raising the flag this year to help mark Pride Week in Los Alamos County.

I thought the blog already did a story on this back in June?

Look I would say I am more of a sinner than any of my Gay friends or Gay relatives whom I love. True.
The issue here has never been that being Gay is a sin, as we ALL ARE BAD SINNERS EVERY ONE OF US.
But.
The issue is and always will be that when I sin,
1) I know that I sinned
2) I don't throw a parade
3) I don't rub God's face in my sin, period.

To celebrate one's sin, is a very very dangerous act.
It could possibly (arguably) be the most dangerous and self-destructive act one does on the Earth.
Just sayin'

Just sayin'

No, you're not "just sayin'." You're proselytizing and using your religion as a bat to beat people. Just like your capitalization of "gay" like it's a religion. Stop it.

If being Gay is a conscious sin, then we shouldn’t celebrate that state with flags, or parades or participant ribbons or the like. If, on the other hand, if being Gay is a natural and immutable state of being, like gravity, we shouldn’t celebrate that state with flags, or parades, or participant ribbons or the like.

The person has freedom of religion. In his religion being gay is a sin. In my religion Jesus is gay. According to freedom of religion both points are allowed.

Yes it's true religion has been used that way.
But I can separate my relationship with God from a Church as some are good
and some are definitely not good and I can do the same with "religion" as well.

You my friend are welcome to take post #2 or to reject,
as we all have that choice with having a personal relationship with Christ the Lord.

Bottom line is if you are a sinner (Gay, Adulterer, etc.)God will never, ever forsake you the rest of your life and he loves you. You can bet your life on that.

"Gay, Adulterer"

I get how being an adulterer is sin, you hurt your partner who you made a deal with. How on earth is being gay a sin? I don't get it.

What a crock. Everyone is free - to be called a sinner by you. Why not just shut up about what you believe? It's just noise in my ears that I should be free to not hear.

Two words Bro, Sodom and Gomorrah.
God the Father in the Old Testament killed everyone there.

Not judging here as we are all sinners, trust me with that.

I don't get it either,
but it is God's standard so I have to go with it Bro.
Just sayin', again as I avoid the haters here. Peace.

How could one determine if being gay is a sin? I understand how stealing is a sin, I understand how killing is a sin and so on, which could even quantified by the harm it causes others. Being gay does not seem to satisfy any condition that would qualify as "sin" at least one that could be based on any rational or even ethical grounds. It like saying being black is sin or being a women is a sin, it makes no real sense.

"with having a personal relationship with Christ the Lord."

I have to ask as how on earth does one have a personal relationship with God? Would that mean God actually interacts with you, if so then it must be physical interaction or one that could be measured. How is it that no has ever measured the "God-human" interaction? I am just asking because when you say this stuff I just cannot figure out what it could possibly mean. Even if such an interaction was found how would know it your God, it could be demon or some other entity. I like how SJWs and certain religious types share a common theme that just having feeling something makes it true. You have faith that being gay is sin, and they have faith that you are fascist. When one tries to use arguments are logic, it just comes down to you saying you just know it is true and one must have faith.

Again not judging here, but put yourself in God's shoes.
He is a Spirit and if He created us he would not leave us without guidance and neither would you or I so he left us (His creation) an inspired book called of course the Bible. Previously our laws were based on the 10 Commandments as to not to kill or steal. In certain parts of the Bible God tells us what sin is and what it is not.
God the Father cannot have sin in His presence so he sent Christ as a sacrifice for ALL of our sins and if I ask Christ to forgive my many sins (more than my Gay friends for sure) than He has promised to forgive me. I am just saying it is really really a bad bad idea to throw a parade after I sin. Don't celebrate sin just admit to Christ I did it ask for forgiveness and move on. I repeat this as I continue multiple times to sin because I am not f**kin perfect.

How is it that no has ever measured the "God-human" interaction?""
Very simple answer my friend. You nor I can get to God as He is a Spirit.
But I can ask God in Jesus name to come to me as I cannot get to Him. With Faith not intellect. If I go through Christ the Lord and use His name I believe the Spirit that I feel is God's and not a demon. A great example of what you are asking is some of the crazy Churches are confused about what spirits they are dealing with so an excellent and insightful question. When you pray use Jesus's name as He gave us dominion over the demons if we use His powerful name. Sorry for the rant:)

Look we all have a bent or even a sexual bent so no argument there, it is the celebration of the sin that is my point. A very very bad bad idea. Just sayin

First of all who said Sodom and Gomorrah ever existed. If it did there is no evidence it was ever destroyed by God, perhaps by an earthquake and even in that case not all the people died. In short you have no answer other than it says so in the bible. There is no reason to believe everything in the bible. I am asking again what logical reason or ethical consideration is there that being gay is a sin?

"In certain parts of the Bible God tells us what sin is and what it is not."

But why should we believe the bible is the word of God? There are many holy books why should one choose the bible over the others. Perhaps they are all false. I understand how one can determine sin or ethical issues through reason or logic but just saying it is defined in some random book is not a good argument for why something is a sin.

"You nor I can get to God as He is a Spirit. "

What on earth is Spirit? Could you give a definition and evidence for such a thing?

Finley the whole Trinity thing is just bizarre, why do you need Jesus to get to God? The Old testament made more sense. It seems like the Trinity is some mishmash of pagan stuff. By the way there where dozens of versions of Christianity in Roman times that a very very different from what you have now, it is just some sub sects of this "won", so it is more of dumb luck that some groups have a trinity and others do not. Even within Christianity today you have very different versions of what is what and some are just out and out contradictory. You can spin this all you want but the most consistent explanation is that this was all created by people who have different views.

" it is the celebration of the sin that is my point."

Ok I not for celebrating sin or crime, but again you have not provided any evidence that being gay is sin or unethical. Simply saying it says so in one book does not cut it. (Actually even in the bible there are examples of gay acts that are just fine).

Has Sodom and Gomorrah been found?
In a survey of the Jordan Valley in 1924, conducted by famed archaeologist and Biblical scholar William F. Albright, five ancient cities were found off the south-eastern shore of the Dead Sea, in the general location the Bible places Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela (Zoar). (See, Genesis 14:1-5).Feb 16, 2019

I am asking again what logical reason or ethical consideration is there that being gay is a sin?""
To believe in God and Christ is ONLY by faith.
I realize with our many great Scientists that is counter intuitive. It(faith) is the only way. If by faith you believed and asked Christ into your life something would change inside of you as many, many Christians have said including me.
There will NEVER be evidence as it is only by faith that you can believe. Then God will come to you (inside of you).
The Bible (New Testament) says many things are a sin and fall short of a perfect and Holy God's Standards.

What on earth is Spirit? Could you give a definition and evidence for such a thing?"

So again no evidence but not knowing everything I can give you my small opinion.
We have a body, a soul (mind, will, emotions) and a human spirit and conscience.
Don't hate me but I would argue animals only have a body and soul because we eat them.

In the bible there was a war in heaven and God the Father cast out the rebellious angels down to the earth and we call them demons like Lucifer. But God's Holy Spirit is also here as did Christ came to the earth as a man and died for my sins and yours. In other words trying not to get too deep in the weeds here as to why Christ had to die for you and me.

When by faith I asked Christ into my life as I was making a mess of things I believe(d) (by faith) and felt something inside me change and I would argue He gave me His Holy Spirit that touched my human spirit.
I cannot prove that in any way other than after some serious healing I feel free and with God and with my praying wife my life has gone from being a nasty human being to being quite successful for not having a degree especially.
Extremely successful in many ways.
Basically He touched me with His love.

That's all I got Bro.
