Not surprised. You can change the company on the letterhead but the workers are still the same.

How do you lose 250 barrels of waste?

Anonymous said...

You don’t. Once again, the Santa Fe New Mexican demonstrates why it is the bottom of the journalistic barrel. They are nothing but a mouthpiece for morons.

Cowboy scientists again?

Or a culture of theft, which is still just a scientific cowboy culture.

Neither. 12/15/2019 9:39 AM has it right. Wait for the whole story.

Thats not how it works, you make the first claim and done, you move on to the next. LANL is full of cowboys, Trump said their where good people on both sides, Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. We live in the "NOW" there is no past no future, we do not check facts, because there are no facts. LANL lost 250 barrels of waste...fact. This will now always be a FACT, nothing in this universe can change that is a FACT now. 200 species are dying every day "FACT". One does not wait for anything the story is done, if you have a followup story I will not read it. If you come to me and say "didn't you see the followup story" I will say that you listen to fake news and you should be ashamed. I am better than you, I am smarter than you, I am more educated than you, you cannot be trusted with the truth. By some chance you are correct and truth is on your side than the truth itself is lie.

Cowboys it is.

You read the actual story not just the title. I hate giving money to this rag, it is clear that 250 barrels where "NOT LOST". The title is completely misleading and dishonest.

Some points:

"The fact that LANL has mischaracterized, misplaced, mis-inventoried — or whatever — 250 barrels of waste is pretty astounding," said Jay Coghlan, executive director of Nuclear Watch New Mexico. "We see mistakes being made by a new contractor. So definitely, all of this is cause for concern."

No Jay it is not as the teenagers say " or whatever" there is a huge difference between misplaced vs mischaracterized.

But there is some good news. The paper also states,

"Still, Triad has committed less than a tenth of the violations that its predecessor, Los Alamos National Security LLC, used to average in a given year. "

Now that is pretty dam good. I would guess the latest issue is probably something left over from LANS. If you listen to what TRIAD has been saying, it is pretty clear that the big issues are contractors and operations, and hopefully Triad can fix this.

Of course Chris Mechels has to comment as well and bring up a 50 year UC faculty report, which was about the ethics of UC running the labs not whether they could do so effectively, something Chris repeatedly forgets. The Zinner report was not some official government report it was just something written at the end of the 60s due to the peace movement, so no one cared since a huge amount of the faculty disagreed with it anyway.

Chris is one bitter nutcase who will always hate UC. Say what you want about UC but if they got rid of that clown than they did a few things right.
