Nuclear ban in question

In April, while most of the world was focused on defeating a devastating viral pandemic, the US State Department quietly released its annual compliance report, describing whether and how the United States and other countries have been abiding by various arms control agreements. The report is sober reading for those hoping that the coronavirus would usher in a new era of international collaboration.

The report made waves for raising “concerns” about China’s adherence to a “zero-yield” nuclear testing standard, as called for by the 1996 Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty

"The report is sober reading for those hoping that the coronavirus would usher in a new era of international collaboration."

I am rather confused about this. Why would the coronavrius usher in a new era of international collaboration and who ever thought it would? It could bring more collaboration with certain places like the US with Europe or Europe with Africa ect specifically for certain subset of things but is was very clear early on that this was gong to increases problems with China. This is not to mention that pandemics in general will probably drive countries to be more self-dependent which will lower international collaboration.

I have never heard anyone say they thought the coronvrius would bring increase one world international collaboration. As for China, things have been going downhill for some time well before Covid-19. Perhaps I am missing something

The Trump Administration is discussing carrying out a full-yield underground nuclear test as a warning to China, Russia, and others. Pretty bold step. Not a totally bad idea.

The world is divided by religion, creed, ethnicity and different forms of government. Many of us had tried to see a bright side in the pandemic in that it would make everyone realize we are all just human and deep down the same. We would need to work together in order to save the people of the earth and this was the time to do it. Talk of blaming China or framing this as a left versus right thing have dashed these hopes. I now fear that the next pandemic which could be even worse than the current one is climate change and the only way to stop it is united the world together. We have already seen the damage that being tribal has done to the world and United States in particular. Every other nation united and fought this thing, the United States did not and we have more deaths than any other nation. That is a wake up call people, we cannot go on like this much longer.

Are you out of your mind!!! It is a crazy idea that could very well lead to the end of the world. In case you have not noticed the world thinks Trump is madman and moron. If he tests the world will say enough and the US must be stopped either by another war or a mass embargo like they did with Iran. Trump just killed 100k, that is like two Vietnam wars in 3 months. He would have no problem with a larger scale war that would kill millions. I say if they think about testing that all the NNSA workers walk out in mass in protest. I am sure they will since they are generally high educated people and as such will see the folly in all this.

Better be careful. Might be a fizzle.

What if there is an issue in the stockpile that can’t be resolved without testing? What if Trump determines he can’t be re-elected and testing would be in the best interests of the country? We has a national test site and a readiness program to return to testing. Why is the idea of a nuclear test unreasonable?

??
Trump could have locked down the nation in Jan, wore a mask, said to listen to the CDC, got testing going, not said to take fishtanks cleaner, not said to drink clorox, and endless other things. The deaths should have been 1-2k at best if Obama was still around. Now the nut wants to start WWIII. Lets do the math USA 100K dead, China 3K dead. We are not doing well.

Sophistry. And that is being kind.

"China 3K dead"

If you believe that number, I've got a great oceanfront house in Kansas to sell you. The CCP will probably never tell the truth about their deaths, but it ain't 3K.

Perhaps, but not more than 10k. In the US 100k. The USA is by the far the worse hit county,
not a single nation even comes close to this. We know who to blame.

Yep, the people who refused to take it seriously, and still do. "It's no worse than the flu," "It's a hoax - fake news," "But! My Constitutional rights!!," "You can't tell me what to do!," "You can't make me wear a mask." Yep, those people.

I agree these are exactly the people who are responsible for the 100k deaths. This explains why NYC was the hit the worse and Montana had so few cases. It all makes so much sense now that you clarified that for me.

Montana has so few cases because no one there travels abroad. Don't worry, it is coming.

Michigan, Illinois, California, Missouri, Georgia, etc. Anywhere Democratic governors tried to slow the spread of disease by shutting down businesses and Republicans are rebelling.

NYC was hit the worst because it has the highest per capita international travelers and immigrant communities. "Worst" is temporary. NYC numbers are trending down. Rural US numbers are trending up. Watch what happens.

Ok. The issue is that we have been watching for some time and no matter how you slice it the "experts" have been shown to be wrong. Well lets see what happens, after which you will forget what happened and make some new crazy predictions for the Fall which will not happen and so on.

Ok lets see. By the way you are completely wrong about people traveling to and from Montana, way...way off. But hey you called it lets see how it goes. I predict nothing will happen in MT. There is a reason certain states are hit hard and certain others are not. Hint, is NM a hard hit state, well certain counties in NM are. I will leave it at that.

Possibly however there has been many other theories as to why NYC is the worst hit. The fact at this point no one knows, certainly not you.
