Nuclear forces on alert!
Putin puts nuclear forces on alert. KYIV/MOSCOW, Feb 27 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin ordered his military command to put Russia's nuclear deterrent on high alert on Sunday in the face of a huge Western response to his war on Ukraine, which said it had repelled Russian ground forces nearing its biggest cities.
I keep seeing posts like "Get over yourself, the labs are not relevant nor are 30 year old weapons systems." I do not get this, if Russia still sees the US deterrent as credible then they will think twice about using their arsenal. The labs are crucial to that deterrent. Of course could be that they have been reading the LANL and LLNL blogs and thinking that after Nanos and Bechtel that the US arsenal is not all that credible anymore.

Putin is done. There is going to be a price to pay, either he gets overthrown by his own nation and then they leave Ukraine repay it, and disarm. Or they face military annihilation. In any case Putin will not be around in a year.

You are confused by the timing. The labs were "critical" to the deterrent that was put in place decades ago and is still there, with some upgrades of course. The labs have absolutely nothing to do with any side's current political calculations of what they can gt away with in the current situation.

Could be a Russian troll! By the way I am not saying "I told you so" that would be rather petty, but if have been reading this blog for the past few years, at least one fairly clever and insightful poster has been saying "Russia is the real enemy and the problem" for some time and not China. Think about it, China has been making consistent advancements in the last 25 years, why rock the boat when things are moving along. Russia on the other hand is a different story
Ok, maybe a few other pundits and political science types have been saying this as well, so it is not exactly rocket science to make that deduction. Still I did not think it would be this rapid.
Biden will give is SOU tonight it will be powerful. Biden has united the world against Putin. Could imagine the mess we would be in now if Trump was still around. It seems like I can go on twitter to some independent reporter and get more out of what is going on than than the full depth of the deep MSNBC, CNN, Fox, coverage. I keep hearing how badly Russia is doing and they such evil people that they are killing civilians.
I may be bit jaded but I seem to remember Iraq 2003, that we bombed the hell out Iraqs infrastructure for like month including civilian services such power stations, roads and so forth before we took another couple of months for our land forces to get to Bagdad. At the time as I recall the MSM was showing nightly air and missile attacks and saying it was like magnificent lighting from the sky to bring freedom to the Iraq people.

Could someone please provide an economists who actually believes this. It sounded like bs to me and sure enough if you look it up it is. Under certain ways of measuring things it could be defined as being equal but no legit economists would state it like this. In fact Russia 1.7 to 2.5 times more depending on how you define it but no economists would say they are equal. I also heard Mexico has the same GPD as Russia, where do they get this stuff?
Also story after story is falling apart, the Snake Island soldiers who said F* off the Russians and died defending-the island is false (they surrendered) the ghost of Kiev who shot down 6 Russian planes is nonsense (it was a video game). The two large paratrooper transport planes that where shot down with 300+ troopers was nonsense (never happened), the teenagers blowing up a tank with a Molotov cocktail is bs, (watch the video). Heck after a year and half of videos from US riots you would think someone would have figured out that Molotov cocktails usually hurt the people throwing them more often than the enemy.

Just out of curiosity what lack of historical understating has posted here? I am very aware of Holodomer and likely know way more about Ukraine than you do. The comments are not on historical understanding on relationship between Russia and Ukrainian over many hundreds of years which is rather complicated. The posts where about MSM coverage or lack of providing anything of value. For example the MSM could at least present some information about the history of the region such as Holodomer, WW2, Ottomans, Jewish, Tartars and other groups. Why the region is valuable in terms of resources, why Hitler turned his attention from Moscow to Ukraine, why they gave up their nuclear weapons after the fall of the Soviet Union, why Ukraine did not have a larger military knowing they had issues with Russia , how events in 2014 played into this and so on. Instead we get essentially worthless coverage that is not fact checked or utterly empty points being blathered from retired generals.
I was just reading some US news headlines and watching some CNN talking heads about how we need go to war with Putin because is so evil.
The thing I do not get is these are the same people who said you need mask up, stay indoors, not work for 2 years, get triple waxed, not travel, social distance and keep you kids out of school because the "RISK" of Covid which gives you less than 1% chance of dying, yet they cannot figure that odds of dying in a nuclear war might be just a tad higher. I have even read posts on Huff post saying it is
worth the risk.

You are expecting the MSM to do your history research for you? How about you look it up yourself?
I think people are forgetting that Russia is a nuclear power. It’s actually scaring me, the over the top support for Ukraine. I’m afraid NATO is going to make some move and we’re going to threatened with nukes. I’m hoping China can come in a negotiate some sort of settlement. People arguing for some sort of regime change in Russia are insane. We need to stop this brutal war but not end the world while doing it.
Judging from some of the anti-war comments I think this thread is being overrun with Russian trolls. In fact almost all social media is under a huge Russian social media attack as you see posts of people saying we should not go to war, or this is not our fight and this is clearly coming from Russia. It is having some effect I have several friends who say they do not think the US should go to war over this, which can only mean they have been influenced by the Russian social media attacks. I suspect this blog has many Russians trolls. Russia is already at war with the US and has been since 2015, they got Trump elected, pushed anti-vax movements, pushed anti BLM movements, attacked AntiFa and essentially crated the far right in the US the last 6 years. Do you really think the trucker convoy in Canada, or the Jan 6th coup was organic someone organized these? These are driven by Russian interference. Hell we had a Russian asset in the White house for 4 years. It is time to realize that we are in a war and have start acting like that. There can be no forgiveness in this war if we are going to win. We need to start going after Russia and the domestic terrorists that support Russia either directly or indirectly.
Covid taught us a lot of valuable lessons about how to beat an enemy, be it a virus or ideology. For example we fired workers that did not get vaccinated. We need to do the same to people who support Putin, we made the world smaller for those who did not get the vaccine so they could not travel, go to restaurants, sports and other events. We got families to start shaming those who did not go along with the program. We need to employ the exact same tactics in our war against Russia. How is it that all those hippies from the Vietnam era and all those anti-war activists from Iraq war era are now so gun-go about war with Russia? I am keep seeing crazier and crazier pro-war stuff from the news media, social media, family and friends.
I have some family members who are on the artsy hippie like side of life, very anti-authority, anti-police, pro-LGBTQ, save the earth, anti-Republican, anti-religion, scared of Covid, a tad flaky, they are however generally nice people. Wrong. The US, the UK, and Russia guaranteed the integrity of Ukraine's borders in return for them returning the nukes to Russia. It wasn't just the west. Russia has abrogated that agreement.

Empty promises from the UK and US, and sleazy manipulation by Russia doomed thousands of civilian non-combatants. Can't possibly sanction Russian oil, because a few Americans might whine about gas prices. Can't possibly use our beyond visual range air-to-air missiles to clear the skies of Russians, because Putin is a better poker player than Biden.

There is a video of a Russian helicopter being shot down that is all over MSM. Right off the bat this does not look right. The biggest issue the film looks like it was taken from another helicopter which is slightly higher. If that was the case it would have been filmed by another
Russian helicopter. Why would the Russians release this? I suppose it could be drone.
The other is the size of them missile that hit it, it is too big to be a Stinger, it looks more like a large anti-aircraft missile. The filming also looks a bit too perfect. I bet anything this is from some time ago or a film of a test of missile.
Again I have to ask if MSM is asking any questions before the run this stuff, or if they simply do not care if it is true or not.
Also there is this talk that they are shelling Nuclear power plants which will be 10 worse the Chernobyl. Not even remotely possible, again why not ask someone who knows about these things before the spew it off on MSM.

Be careful what you predict. A day later, oil will be sanctioned since a significant fraction of the US public will gladly pay more for gas to stop Putin killing innocent civilians. Also, Polish Soviet-era jet fighters will be provided to Ukraine. Poland in particular has really stepped up, along with Hungary and Moldova. Good for them. Where is he US?

Remember what I told you about the MSM being full of it ? The deal is the US will replace the Polish fighter planes with F-16 and Poland would give the planes to Ukriane. Poland said no goddam way and wants nothing to do with this. Of course you cannot find the last part on MSM. Also Ukraines air-force was already destroyed.
Just think about why this beyond dumb and just for show. The moment Poland agrees they get at least a conventional airstrike to wipe these planes out. Also even if they could give them to Ukraine how are the going to get them there and where on earth are the going to land them in the Ukraine? They would be wiped out on the ground rather rapidly. In short planes are not going to sent to Ukriane from Poland or any other country.
Look you do not even have to accurate MSM on this stuff just use your head and logic and it will be rather obvious so many of these things being put out their make no sense.

Well I am retired and make a cool 290k pension and live in my Colorado house in Durango with nothing better to do than post on various blogs. My wife runs a bakery which runs a bit in the red which I cover. Thanks to DOE I did my 40 years of service as a manager so I deserve every penny. My kids are doing well as medical doctors in Oregon and Utah. So with that in mind and looking over what I have to lose or gain, I say lets go to war with Russia or at least tank the economy in a war. I have thought about this for a long time and I can afford 30 dollars a gallon for gas. If worse comes to worse my wife can quit her pot cupcake business in Pagosa Springs but I think getting high is a good investment in what is coming. With that I think we are good. Wrong again. They have been offered to the US to be sent to a US base in Germany. (This is Poland putting the responsibility all on the US.) The the US has to figure out how to put the planes in Ukraine so they can be flown by Ukraine pilots against Russia, and then reimburse Poland with different planes, plus deal with Russia's response. The Pentagon is already objecting to the whole idea, after the State Department pushed it. Biden is asleep at the wheel, apparently.

I have a rule, you should not link to something that (1) you did not read or (2) you did not consider the logical conclusions of the article which will tell you there is something wrong with what was stated.
The National Review post is nonsense and all you have to do is use of logic to figure out why. As the post states that Fox is the highest in the cable news at 3 million a night. The post points out that 3 million out 330 million Americans is small and that some show like young Sheldon gets more views so few people are watching Fox! If what this article is saying is true
no one is watching any cable or TV news at all by this definition which is pretty sweeping but if you think about it you will understand why this is wrong. It is odd that the article did not say "no one is watching cable/TV news" yet only mentions Fox.
Here is the problem right away, I myself have not actually watched Fox news or even TV in years. Heck I do not even have cable or satellite TV and less and less Americans have these. I watch online news aggregates that cover what Fox news said or online blogs, and news at post to discuss what was on Fox news. This is true of huge number of news consumers, I do the same for information from CNN, MSNBC, NYT and so one. In fact less people are directly watching cable news and looking at other sources that still receive information from cable news and analyze the news or give highlights. So the idea of comparing the actual number of people sitting and watching cable news to people still getting that same news is not equivalent. It could be up to 10 times the number of people get information from Fox from other sources than directly form watching it, the same is true of many of the other Cable news and this due to the rise of the internet. For example you have people who only get their news from Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, radio shows and so on, who every day discuss Fox news stories, along with with CNN, MSNBC and so on. So in short yes, lots of people are getting information from Fox, way more than 3 million. Of those 3 million they tend to happen to be the over 65 crowd who do not use computers and still have cable.
The question now is does the national review guy know this and is just trying to smear Fox or

Something is literally true when in fact it is literally true, usually in that case you do not need to say it is literally true since it would be obvious that it is true. In today's vernacular when people say something is "literally true" it seems actually mean I really believe this". It is not a statement of actual facts or conditions it just stating belief or adding emphases. Blue is "literally" the best color. This is "literally" the best town in Colorado, this is "literally" the coolest car ever, so and so is "literally" a jerk. So when people use the term literally now, it only means a belief or it is part of insult. People do not even think of the word literally to mean what the dictionary definition is, it is now just a add on word on to insults or proclamations. One could simply say "you are a jerk", "no one watches Fox news", "the sky is blue" adding "literally" is like adding a exclamation mark !!!

A couple of points.
How on earth do you come to the conclusion that I am defending Fox news? I simply pointed out that Fox news has more influence than stated by the national review.
The second point, is not really related. I am no fan of Fox news but could provide any evidence that other MSM such as MSNBC, CNN, ABC and so on provide news that is more accurate or less biased than Fox? It seems like if you already have a preconceived notion of what news you like than you simply say that is a better source and other side is biased. I really do not like TV news all that much and prefer newspapers or more in depth work. I find it silly that people slam Fox but not MSNBC, or slam MSNBC but not Fox. Sure you can say T. Carlson is a loony right wing hack but at the same time Rachel Maddow can be considered a loony left wing hack.
In any case Fox and MSNBC seem to be the same page in wanting to start WW3 so at least they can agree on that.
I do not want to send in troops or attack Russia, right now I think the NATA and the US are implementing the best approach and it may even work. I give Biden some credit on this.

I believe the US should go to war with Russia right now to stop the invasion and it is well worth the risk of WW3. We just lived through 4 years or our own brutal dictator and by chance Jan 6th did not lead to the Trump becoming the true full dictator that he and his base wanted so bad. The problem is that threat is still with us. We also have to remember that Putin was the person who put Trump in power. If Putin is still around in 2024 Trump could be back. I would rather risk WW3 that than lose or democracy by having Trump come back. Make no mistake the next time Trump comes it he will make sure to stay. That is not a world I or any real American wants to live in. Our paths is clear, defeat Putin and you defeat Trump and his base,
let Putin win and you lose the United States. When you put it in these terms it is clear we have no choice but war. There is no guarantee it will go nuclear and we could even survive a limited nuclear exchange. The only other option is is we simply arrest Trump and make sure he can never be president again. In that case Putin is powerless. I am afraid we simply do not have the guts to arrest Trump, but maybe we have the guts to go war with Russia. Remember this entire thing hinges on Trump. Putin put him in. Trump was going to get rid of NATO, Putin was
going to take Ukriane with Trumps blessing and than a NATO less Europe again all with Trumps blessing.

In case you have not been paying attention we are closer to to WW3 right than since the early 60s. There is this place called LLNL, and some of the work they are do and are known for is with nuclear weapons. So ya kinda sorta like relevant, just a tad, a little bit, know you, ya think? Seriously dude, come on you cannot be real, but maybe you are, maybe you are.
I have noticed more and more of the people that work at LLNL and LANL seem to have no understating of the history of the place. To them it is a job, it is about a paycheck, not doing stressful work, and enjoying it for what it is. If you ask them if what they are doing is relevant it like asking if working at Wallmart is relevant. It is a job nothing more nothing less, if you could get the same money for not working that would be even better. No one at Wallmart or Starbucks thinks about if their job has any meaning so why is it so different at LANL or LLNL. By the way much of the DOE and DC have the same attitude. It pays well, you do not have to work hard, it is giant machine that no understands or really cares about. Nuclear war, what does LLNL have to do with nuclear weapons?
In the private defense companies things are different, you have make stuff that gets tested, so it better work by such and such date. The pay is good, and the people like what they are doing and think it matters, because it does, but these can be hard jobs, where you can get fired if something does not work, you do not get the results on time, or someone does your job better than you. It can be long hours as well. LLNL, LANL, not so much, no one gets fired, no one works long hours, things are delayed all the time, screw up and you become a manager.
Before someone gets on my case, I am of course embellishing somewhat to make for a good blog post, but anyone who is honest will have to admit there is fair amount of truth to this.
I am curious how the whole Pit thing is going to work because now something has to actually be made in timely fashion. My prediction
it will struggle with LANL and some point they will figure out that at Pit facility at Los Alamos will have to be stand alone entity that is not part of the LANL swamp. One could ask why don't they just do that from the start? Seriously what are quantum dots, NIF, giant simulations of climate, and new computing platforms going to do for Pits? At some point the pit facility people are going want their money or ask what the money for Pits went to.

You are right world events have no consequence of for the labs, never have and never will. Look I get you have no concept of sarcasm so you take that statement the way you are going to take it. You do you and the rest of the world will go on.

Perhaps it just a bot? There is something kinda of mechanical about this poster. I have heard that one of the big challenges of AI is to get one that can get humor, irony or sarcasm. This will be some big threshold that AI is really intelligent. I suppose there are some humans who simply cannot understand these concepts which is kinda of scary. I suppose that could be the case for 5:09 PM but maybe it is just a rogue Russian bot that has jus be sent free as the bot farm manager got conscripted into the Russian army so now his bots are just going to the wrong blogs to cause mayhem. Shouldn't you be on the political blog posting about the Rothschilds and world depopulation or something? Wrong blog.
