Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Remove CAT I/II quantities of special nuclear material from the site by the end of 2012 and achieve down-grading of “Superblock” buildings 332 & 334;
Translation: Get the job done ahead of schedule and get this stuff to LANL or Pantex. Close the Pu facility down, fast.
Reduce acreage supported by NNSA’s weapons account by 90% with a status change for Site 300;
Translation: Buildings will be torn down at LLNL and site 300 will become a golf course for the executives of LLNS with artificial turf , no water required
Reduce buildings and structures supported by NNSA’s weapons account by 30%; and
Translation: 30% less building equals 30 % less people, NOT, including those that will be gone by April 2008. You figure out the numbers. Can you say 10% in 2008 or more, plus 30% to come and it will not happen by normal attrition. That's a 40% reduction so far, but wait.
Over a decade or so, up to 20% fewer staff supporting nuclear weapons activities. These reductions are expected through natural attrition and transfer of personnel to other positions supporting essential national security needs.
Translation: Well we have 10% in 2008, 30% more to come afterwards and 20% more after that, There we go a 50% reduction in force bringing the work force to approximately 4000 people and most will not be FTE's.
That should do it folks.
This and what seems to be a killing-off of the RRW would be the end of any significant need for designers. With them go all the supporting programs. What's left is not worth keeping LLNL around at all for. Sad, but true.
Did anyone see a thank-you note from some dolphins ( Douglas Adam's reference for the humor impaired )?
1.) George Miller said we were in the hole $300M so is the $100M I am reading about included in this $300M or are we now $400M in the hole.
2.) If so is the $300-$400M debt going to be made up entirely by getting rid of people or is LLNS going to make that $400M up by shutting down buildings and then removing them, so there is no floor space taxes, property taxes, upkeep, etc, etc, etc.
3.) When Bruce Goodwin gave his little talk last week and said he was $70M in the hole was that knowing about this $100M more or has that $70M now grown to many millions more which will translate into getting rid of more people.
In my opinion it is time for LLNS and ULM to tell us real number and real facts, all of them, not little bits and pieces of BS that we can all ponder on for months wondering what the heck are these people in ULM doing, or, do they even know what they are doing. How about getting ULM to give us the very same word for word information they are getting at the top. Why all the secrecy? They know a lot more than they're telling us and I for one am tired of the unknowns.
