Security clearances

National Labs employees know what it takes to get and keep the highest security clearance.

They almost have to be perfect people to work at the Labs.

A guy named Elon Musk, yes the one who financed trump's campaign, was given access through the DOGE committee to the Treasury Dept, the Medicare Adminitration, Social Security and others. He has all the classified information! Without  a clearance!

Even a senator cannot  access that type of info.

I would like to get your reaction.

Are you outraged,  delighted or don't care?

Here is the video that talks about the event. You can fast-forward to minute 4'.

My simple question - What is the US AID program doing that requires a security clearance to view? Are we funneling money from the CIA through them for a nefarious purpose?

Here is more on the violation.

How about a Lab DEI hired and privileged Native American that was able to keep his security clearance, even though married, and had an extramarital affair with a New Mexico college young lady he helped hire, and then exercised his LLNL management DEI position to threaten all that where aware of his activities with sub-contractor fires?

You must be a MAGA. An American Indian who may have deserved to be promoted initially, ended up doing something bad. Does that mean every deserving minorities cannot be promoted or given opportunities?
Do you tge shortsightedness ?
I recommend you stop watching Fox News and co.

2/03/2025… that’s directors gold award bonus/ retention bonus material right there. That move also has upper management written all over it.

As the saying goes, trying to keep unflattering conduct a secret, will eventually be as successful as a cat trying to bury its sh_t in a marble floor.

“An American Indian who may have deserved to be promoted initially”

Who said an American Indian deserved to be promoted or hired initially? Maybe you’re watching too much CNN, you know, the network whose ratings are going down daily.

What makes you think Musk does not have clearance? I would have assumed he has had one for some time.

You are wrong, Elon Musk does have a clearance. There was a WSJ article explaining that he has a TS but not an SCI. Also, SSNs are only CUI PII, not classified.

Wow, based on the latest reactions, the Labs have quite a few MAGAs.
They will have to wait until they get hit personally before they wake up.

We went through this before. Do you have any memory? You said all this in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. We heard it all before over and over...just you wait! Is there any kind of self-reflection going on?

Does said llnl DEI hire happen to have a name like Randy? Just asking for a friend. No he is a small fry now in terms of how his lower level employees are treated at this point since COVID. The person who should be a concern in this regard is the pillsbury doughboy.

If you take away the wealth-politics from either Elon or Trump they would be denied any clearances. Elon extensively and currently abuses drugs and has untreated mental illness. Trump is a felon, and is criminally reckless with classified information, etc, etc, etc They get away with lots of things any of us normal folks would be crucified for.

“…Michael Campbell, the laboratory official responsible for NIF, has already resigned due to nonrelated personal issues," said Richardson…
The "nonrelated personal issue" that removed him from the scrutiny of a management review just days before the scandal broke was the revelation—which seems to have previously eluded security checking procedures for officials at his level—that he didn't really have a Ph.D…”

-Laser Focus World

How could one “elude” security checking guidelines? The alleged security clearance violations are not in a timely manner, forwarded to the LSO or DOE for review by the employee in question, his managers, or employees around him. Why like Michael Campbell, would a security issue not reach the LSO or DOE? Either a security issue does not exist, or efforts are taken so it does not exist due to “rationalized” DEI competing priorities, and the moral hazard that follows.

Adultery and Security Clearances

“An adulterous worker may lose their security clearance when it comes up for review, particularly if they’ve gone to any effort to conceal their actions.”

“comes up for review” being the required critical qualifier

Short answer. Outraged. Elon Musk has no authority to access these IT systems. Also, as a government contractor with government contracts, it is fraud because he has a huge conflict of interest. Now, stop the bullshit and focus on what is happening to OUR government.

Today, when asked about Musk’s conflicts of interest as he reviews federal spending while also receiving more than $15 billion in federal contracts, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Trump had already promised that “if Elon Musk comes across a conflict of interest with the contracts and the funding that DOGE is overseeing, that Elon will excuse himself from those contracts.” Donald Kettl, a scholar of public policy, told Dana Hull of Bloomberg: “I don’t know of any other case, anywhere, in which an individual could determine for himself whether he had a conflict of interest. In fact, self-determination of a conflict of interest is itself a conflict of interest.”

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

LLNL un-diversity

Actual post from Dec. 15 from one of the streams. This is a real topic. As far as promoting women and minorities even if their qualifications are not as good as the white male scientists, I am all for it. We need diversity at the lab and if that is what it takes, so be it.  Quit your whining. Look around the lab, what do you see? White male geezers. How many African Americans do you see at the lab? Virtually none. LLNL is one of the MOST undiverse places you will see. Face it folks, LLNL is an institution of white male privilege and they don't want to give up their privileged positions. California, a state of majority Hispanics has the "crown jewel" LLNL nestled in the middle of it with very FEW Hispanics at all!
