Nuc review

Trump has been busy today. Exclusive: Here Is A Draft Of Trump’s Nuclear Review. He Wants A Lot More Nukes. His first Nuclear Posture Review: more nukes, more posturing.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-nuclear-posture-review-2018_us_5a4d4773e4b06d1621bce4c5?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009

n October, NBC reported that President Trump had told a gathering of high-ranking national security leaders that “he wanted what amounted to a nearly tenfold increase in the U.S. nuclear arsenal.” While the report doesn’t nearly go that far, it does call for the development of new, so-called low-yield nuclear weapons — warheads with a lower explosive force. The logic of those pushing for the development of smaller nukes is that our current nuclear weapons are too big and too deadly to ever use; we are effectively self-deterred, and the world knows it. To make sure other countries believe that we’d actually use nuclear force, the thinking goes, we need more low-yield nukes.

This is a big yawn and history repeating itself (in terms of new tactical nukes). Remember the deep earth penetrator and the RRW?
There will be a paper study, maybe $3 million a year. Some vugraphs will be made. Project will get cancelled by Congress at some point.

Well Trump will be out very soon so none of this matter anyway. I think everyone can now agree that he is mentally unfit and destroying the country.

No I (very) respectfully disagree.

Trump is doing exactly (EXACTLY) what maybe 63m people voted for him want him to do. He has not changed, at all, NOT AT ALL.
I for one am extremely happy with Midwest jobs and UN de-funding and many, many other issues that I would be happy to list.

A little off subject but if you think Mexico will not pay for the wall (probably) indirectly than just ask all the people who bet against Trump (Bush and Clinton dynasty, Megyn Kelly and many more).

My (small) opinion is he will win by more Electoral Votes (easily)in 2020.

As far as the Nuke Review he (Trump) has US Marine Corps and Army generals and many smart people advising him and (my opinion) he loves the Military and they love him.

I think the Status Qou (Bush/Obama) Globalists are mostly gone and what I suggest we are seeing (in the review)
is a smarter way of looking at things
and maybe Congress (establishment) will go with this and maybe not?

Not looking for a political fight here just to say
he is doing EXACTLY what he said he would,
please don't pretend to be surprised.
If anyone is surprised I would maybe suggest one has not been paying attention
during the election?
In other words if anyone wants to argue Policy that is fine but what is the surprise here? They want smaller Nukes and have reasons for that.

I would add two things (again off subject) about Gen. Mattis.

When Gen Kelley's son gave his life in Afghanistan it was Gen. Mattis whom dressed in his Marine Corps blues to show up on Gen. Kelley's doorstep.
Secondly Gen. Mattis reads books in Latin to fall asleep at night, I would argue that a genius would need to do that.

You sure use lots of parenthesis. The phase you are going through is a parenthesis. Eventually, you will wake up and see how dangerous Trump is to democracy.

Actually, what was in the latest secret launches (ULA and Space-X)this month ? Looks like a new X-37B or some other weapons platform. Don't be surprised if we don't have the "Golden Rods from Heaven" up there someplace in orbit. Kim the Rocket Man is going to get a big non-nuclear surprise while he tries to poop out that French cheese ! What a mess !

Excuse me but there are 235 million voters in the United, only 1/4 of these voted for Trump, do you get 75% of Americans are against Trump, 75% percent! You can easily have 25% crazies or deplorables in a country. In fact Trump lost the popular vote, if you take into account the Russian interference many only 15% voted for this lunatic. How did he become president when 75% people are against him and for Hillary.

Trump's latest approval rating in the Gallup poll is 40%. That closely matches the Real Clear Politics average over all polls of 39.2%.

Hillary's approval rating in the Gallup poll is 36%.

Trump's approval rating is ABOVE Hillary's. Listen, I'm not a Trump supporter, in-fact, I don't particularly like either Trump or Clinton, because both are proven liars.

Liars, just like people who make up fake numbers.

The statement that Mr. Trump is doing what he said he would in the campaign
and that 63m voters knew that ahead of time is an absolute fact
if one goes back and watches his speeches and Googles election results.

How many people are against him while I acknowledge may be many are only conjecture.

If true then they should have voted, because Mr.Trump was honest about his intentions.

WSJ: By developing a new American “low yield” system, the Pentagon review argues the U.S. will have more credible options to respond to Russian threats without using more powerful strategic nuclear weapons, which the Kremlin may calculate Washington would be reluctant to use for fear of unleashing an all-out nuclear war. Because the new weapons it is proposing would be based at sea, the U.S. wouldn’t need the permission of other nations to deploy them and their deployment wouldn’t violate existing arms-control agreements.

The draft doesn’t precisely define what “low yield” nuclear weapons might be, but the new Trident system might have a warhead of one or two kilotons, compared with the current system which has an explosive yield that ranges from 100 kilotons to 455 kilotons, depending on the warhead it carries.

A sea-based underwater cruise missile with a low yield nuke sound like a good idea. I doubt this particular project will be killed off. Currently, the US Navy is under increasing threat from advanced hyper-speed missiles of our enemies. A sea cruise missile would be a good way to overcome these dangers. Who would attack a US aircraft carrier if they knew the response to their ships would be an attack from such a device? No one. This device would be particularly advantageous in the South China Sea.

Let's also not forget that the President is hearing from the DOD about a potential threat from "ET" craft in our airspace and ocean space. We (and the Russians) have overwhelming evident from the last 70 years of UFO harassment of NORAD, DOD, DOE, NATO and other defense facilities (including Canadian, British and Russian). This is no longer a "conspiracy" (CIA your lies on the subject are now blown up).

Given the extreme maneuverability and speed of such craft, our kinetic weapons would be useless. Laser weapons even more useless. As soon as the IR sensors on the "ET" craft see KW/MW of laser power, they will move faster than any pointing/tracking system we have. And the "ET" craft appear to have numerous countermeasures (e.g., low radar and physical cross section, extreme reflectivity, plasma shielding ?, god knows what else).

Hopefully, our visitors will remain relatively friendly, but who knows ? Low yield nuclear warheads with a high blast wave design might be the only way to catch them.

Also, maybe time to upgrade our missile defense systems. Who thought that kinetic kill was a good idea ? Hit a nail with a nail at Mach 10 ? Are we happy with a 50/50 kill ratio ?

Bingo. We have megaton city-destroying bombs, lots of them, but all the world knows that we wouldn't actually use them. We know it too, not unless it was use them or be invaded or destroyed ourselves. At some point, and perhaps we are past that point, large nuclear weapons cease to deter anyone - not just Russia, but North Korea, China, Iran. A small nuke? That is something we might plausibly use, and therefore a deterrent again.

We already have conventional weapons with yields from less than 0.25 kilotons up to bunker busters with yields over 2.5 KT. Exactly why would we need a nuke in this yield range again?

Anonymous said...

There’s no way the labs could build anything new. It wouldn’t be trusted without testing. The days of the W79 or any special purpose weapons are gone. Designers are trained to maintain systems, not develop new ones. Those designers that could build new systems from scratch are long gone.

There’s no rule we have to match other countries nuke for nuke, either. The fact that we can only respond with 100 Ktons is pretty scary to our enemies, I imagine.

Would those be the fabled Kalifornia Kilotons?

The B-52H can only carry 152 Tons, which includes its crew and fuel. This is 0.152 kT for the dimensional unit challenged, so I think January 16, 2018 at 11:34 PM needs a new slide rule. (Hint: there is no "conventional" weapon with a 2.5 kT yield. That's a lot more fertilizer than any airplane can lift.)

The guys over at Arms Control Wonk recorded a "fun" podcast on the history of NPRs, why they change nothing, and discuss the recommendations to develop a new sea-launched cruise missile (not at all wanted by the USN for reasons articulated in the podcast) and a variable yield warhead for the Trident D5 submarine launched ballistic missile (not needed under any DOD use scenario).

https://www.armscontrolwonk.com/archive/1204661/reviewing-the-nuclear-posture-review/

I really liked the point that if we're firing D5 SLBMs at the Russian Federation, we better have more than the 0.5-1 kt low yield setting dialed up.

What NO comments about the recent DOD reveal on "ET" based craft flying over our critical airspace ? You don't believe ? Time to wake up ! The academic community and DOE is in denial over the physics. Therefore, the conclusion must be that the designers/builders of these craft are real "ETs" or are clearly inspired by "ETs". But if you believe that our Aerospace guys can reverse engineer anti-gravity and inertial damping that they don't understand, or develop materials that they have no understanding of, in the absence of ongoing "ET" help, then I think we give Aerospace too much credit.

I like conspiracy theories as much as the next guy but the whole "reveal" as you call it is nonsense. This was a program started by Harry Reid to funnel 22 million dollars to a company in guess where...Nevada!!. Look up which state Harry Reid represents. It was never a real program to begin with but total pork. The so called UFO footage was realesed by the a group funded by the crazy singer from Blink-182 (band sucks) from the guy in the Nevada company who are trying to do guess what...get more money from the public after the government shut down the pork project.

You may also be referring to the "gimble camera footage from 2002" of the "ufo". Hint it is a another fighter jet as it has the exact same heat signature one expects from jet exhaust and the rotation is due to the gimble camera rotation. The pilots you see on TV talking about this are actually talking about a completely different incident. The whole thing is total bunk.

Dear January 22, 2018 at 8:39 PM

You are not aware of 7 decades of evidence collected by the CIA, FBI, DOD, DOE, NORAD, NATO, KJB, FSB, etc...etc...thousands and thousands of pages (almost as much as Trump's 2016 tax return ! LOL).

Or the complete testimony of Navy Commander David Fravor (retired) and the recently released info from Luis Elizondo (retired) of the DOD Office of Investigations on Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification.

Just Google search "Luis Elizondo UFO" or "Commander David Fravor UFO"

Pentagon and Aerospace have spent > 1T$ on black projects related to applying "ET" technology to stealth vehicles and space applications. I personally do not believe that they have achieved the inertial damping, anti-gravity propulsion and exotic materials that are exhibited by a significant fraction of UFO's. Therefore, my personal conclusion (and also Elizondo's and Robert Bigelow's) is that real "ET"'s are in our airspace and are a threat.

We need to get over our hang ups on NOT understanding the materials science, engineering and physics, and start thinking out of the little 3-dimensional box that we live in.

And the denier's at NASA need to get a life ! They have been in denial since Apollo 10 mapped the back side of the moon.

I think you may be on the wrong blog, not that they I have problem with this kind of stuff on coast to coast but it is kinda off topic from the issues of how to make money from the LLNL and LANL.

But hey, I will bite for a bit of fun. You are right to look up Luis Elzondo and one should watch him on youtube. He comes across as a total con-man, however this may be exactly what "they" want you to think. They throw this guy on TV to completely discredit the UFO movement since no rational person would ever trust a word from this guy. Not to mention it was odd that the videos of the fighter jet, oops I mean I mean UFO, was leaked by this guy two months after he was out of a job and that he needs a new gig to make money by joining the UFO group "to the stars academy" headed by non other than the singer from a crappy pop band. Could he have a possible motive to not be entirely honest with his information in order to boost his new job? Naw he his honest. As for David Fravor there is something off on this guy, for example, "Retired US Navy pilot commander David Fravor is now calling on British space expert Stephen Hawking to view the video and give his take on it." Thats pretty weird for a pilot to say and Hawking is not "space expert". If he is talking about the "GIMBAL UFO" footage that is being shown all over the news is a smeared heat image of another jet and the rotation is due to the GIMBAL camera rotation. So you got nothing.

Let's ask my past colleagues at LLNL who worked on the Clementine Project (1994 ? 'O' Group, Edward Teller and Lowell Wood's guys) ? What exactly did they find on the back side of the moon with the $10M CCD camera system on the Clementine Lunar Orbiter ? Why was the NRO (National Reconnaissance Office) so interested.

"Coast to Coast" is a bit of a joke, despite the occasional insider guest who might know a thing of two.

Global Security at the Labs is a big program. Brings in lots of money, so ya UFO research is a big deal at the National Labs. It has been since the late '40's.

And don't forget, in the Commander Fravor case (and he has a rather unconvincing persona), the USS Nimitz and USS Princeton where getting ready to sail back to the Pacific Theatre when they had a two week encounter with numerous UFO craft. They took loads of radar data, camera data, visual sightings, etc... The poor quality "Gun Camera" IR imaging is a small fraction of the info that they gathered. We are being told only a small fraction of what the US Navy has on file, no doubt about it !

Hard core, so you are saying that Coast to Coast is not enough on the cooky side? You sound nuts and and by the way we are not going to just tell you whats on the other side of the moon. The labs work on UFO's? Well maybe LLNL but if it was LANL UFO parts would have been shipped by Fedex, found in a meth trailers or behind a copier not to mention that workers who would have been electrocuted cleaning the UFO power sources by forgetting to shut the power off, so the idea that you could have secret UFO research at the labs is kind of laughable. It does make you think about what "A" stands for in A-division.

"The poor quality "Gun Camera" IR imaging is a small fraction of the info that they gathered. We are being told only a small fraction of what the US Navy has on file, no doubt about it !"

Doubt it, this whole thing is money grab by the stars academy. There is no way in hell they had a two week encounter with numerous UFOs.

This guy who uses "ya" instead of "yeah" like everyone else has been on this blog for years with his crazy BS posts. Such a simple thing to identify him and his craziness. No need to read further. He has never been part of the national labs and knows essentially nothing except what he reads in the tabloids.

Correct the pro UFO guy also hates UC, hates scientists, loves Walp and Dorn, and is way beyond bitter. What exactly is his/her story? The only thing that distinguishes them from Mechels is the pro UFO stuff but than again Mechels may be into that stuff as well. I would guess that they are an ex-employee with an axe to grind but yeah I agree they are pretty off. Whatever happened to them happened during UC being in charge and they put the blame on them, the next level of blame goes on scientists, and engineers. They will align themselves with whoever is against UC/LANL no matter how awful such people are.
