How is Bill doing?

As those before him since the 2007 transition, is LLNL Director Bill Goldstein simply a stooge for the for-profit LLNS LLC contractor? What has being the LLNS "President" meant thus far to LLNL employees besides unjustified mass layoffs and systemic benefit reductions?

Even former LANS Director Charles F. McMillan admitted the for-profit LANS LLC would do whatever was in its own best interest. Got to give McMillan points on that one.

Democrats try to ban Donald Trump from using nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes after he asked officials why he shouldn't - and as RNC heads for Florida panhandle at height of hurricane season

?? We are going nuke hurricanes. Well at least that is a test.

Actually my understating that this was a prank created on 4chan that was picked up by Axios. It is odd how many online pranks by right wing trolls got picked by the news. Another one was Pepe the Frog and the Ok symbol being white power gestures. All these where made up on 4chan I even remember when they did this. The problem is that under the current climate you can say anything and it will be picked up. For example we could start a new one that people that wear blue jeans are actually doing so as a white supremacy dog whistle. Some evidence for this is that country music singers often wear jeans and we all know counrty music is racist. The world is starting to go nuts, maybe we are in giant simulation and the simulation broke.

Bill is an earnest guy trying hard to execute on the missions of the Lab and the management contract dictated by NNSA. I don’t see him being a stooge to work to those ends and try to treat the employees as well as HQ allows. A pure UC nonprofit contract would not have prevented the slide in benefits.

It would be great if it was 1985 again. I’d be 35 years younger and pounds lighter. The Lab was grand. It’s still a pretty sweet deal if you like technical work.

If LLNL has become anything like LANL, the technical work is insignificant compared with the exploding bureaucracy paperwork.

Our Director seems to be a good person and capable.
I do notice he walks that line with his SF Liberalism as he tripped out a little with the Trump travel ban awhile back and goes off once in awhile on Immigration.

I hope the Director (as I respect him greatly for being authentic)
doesn't confuse Legal and Illegal Immigration
as most Big Libs do as they try to confuse the percentage of not so smart voters
that seem to exist?

It did seem though that Trump got in his head a little bit of course a far away guess
on my part as like many I'm sure he wants a polite, Globalist POTUS.

"doesn't confuse Legal and Illegal Immigration "

Out of curiosity which group do thing is most effected by illegal immigration? It turns out to be the one that all the protests are about. You see the world is a tad bit more complex than "Orange man bad".

Plutonium Shots on NIF.

Tri-Valley Cares needs to be on this if they aren't already. We need to make sure that NNSA and LLNL does not make good on promises to pursue such stupid ideas as doing Plutonium experiments on NIF. The stupidity arises from the fact that a huge population is placed at risk in the short and long term. Why do this kind of experiment in a heavily populated area? Only a moron would push that kind of imbecile area. Do it somewhere else in the god forsaken hills of Los Alamos. Why should the communities in the Bay Area be subjected to such increased risk just because the lab's NIF has failed twice and is trying the Hail Mary pass of doing an SNM experiment just to justify their existence? Those Laser EoS techniques and the people analyzing the raw data are all just BAD anyways. You know what comes next after they do the experiment. They'll figure out that they need larger samples. More risk for the local population. Stop this imbecilic pursuit. They wan...

Trump is to gut the labs.

The budget has a 20% decrease to DOE office of science, 20% cut to NIH. NASA also gets a cut. This will  have a huge negative effect on the lab. Crazy, juts crazy. He also wants to cut NEA and PBS, this may not seem like  a big deal but they get very little money and do great things.

Rumor corner

LLNS may have excluded the wrong people in last VSSOP? The exclusions were based on outdated job categories and related skills. ULM are now thinking that in the future, job categories and functional areas will have to be re-defined. The next VSSOP/ISP will be based on the new categories and functional areas. The questions I have are: 1) Why didnt they think of that before the transition. It seems like their style is “change things as you go”. Planning is out the window! 2) Who will give input on the new changes? The next RIF apparently is going to be more lucrative than the VSSOP. Depending on the length of employment, a RIFed person, not only gets their 1 week pay per year of service but also from 30 to 120 days notice, essentially 30 to 120 days pay. Please feel free to comment on the rumors or add new ones you actually heard.
