A/B

Word has it, A and B divisions at LLNL are going to be merged under one umbrella. What is driving this? Seems like a match made in hell.

I cannot imagine that working well, since the people and cultures are so different. Yes, they both use design codes, but.

Verdon needs more power and probably wants to dump the B division leader.

When LLNS EE and ME merged, was there a reduction in duplicative function overhead staff or increased efficiency? No. What DID happen after the merger was EE saw their market driven higher salary delta over ME employees erased. It pays to have an ME "Uncle in the business" and a weak former Engineering AD.

A or B should have absorbed NIF or the remnants of Lasers, instead of combine between themselves. LIFE already got dumped, just have to boot most of the ignition nonsense, keep it programmatic, and maybe play their cards right and stop fabricating EoS, then maybe they can buy some breathing room for an actual future, not one based on lies and smoke-and-mirror promises.

But the "weak former Engineering AD" gave hope to all those under qualified folks hoping to land a leadership role at the lab.

Not all, some under qualified folks were promoted into material leadership roles before the "former AD" took over, and then these folks were gently moved laterally after a time for obvious reasons.
